This list collects novels that deal with climate change. Examples are Michael Crichton's State of Fear or The Aviator by Gareth Renowden. More recently, Barbara Kingsolver's Flight Behavior and Nathaniel Rich's Odds Against Tomorrow have achieved the status of best-selling cli-fi novels, demonstrating the differences between cli-fi and science fiction: cli-fi is more literary and more centered on human psychology.

Paul Collins This is a great list - thank you! If you're interested in cli-fi, it would be great to see you at the folloiwng Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/32...

Paul

Paul Collins Peter wrote: "Congratulations to Dan Bloom for coining the term Cli-Fi !

I am glad to see that it is getting universally accepted.

Peter Kubicek
Author of "Memories of Evil" which can be viewed on GoodReads"

I agree, let's keep the momentum up! https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/32...

Paul Collins Here’s a very thought-provoking article by Professor Brigitte Nerlich on the potential role of cli-fi (climate fiction) to help engage people on climate change http://blogs.nottingham.ac.uk/makings...

message 4: by Mary (new)

Mary You and your readers might be interested in joining https://plus.google.com/u/0/communiti..., a new community group discussion nature themes in literature and the arts, with a focus on climate change

message 5: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell Friedman Climate Changed: A Personal Journey through the Science is non-fiction. And therefore presumably should not be on this list.

message 6: by Angelina (new)

Angelina Werner The Hunger Games is not about climate change, nor is Station Eleven, nor are several of the rest of the books on this list. Who put these together????

message 7: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Jane Earthships, Growing up in the climate shift Book 1
Earthships, Earths Blue Sky, Will the Children remember? Book 2
By Bonnie Jane Hall

Why weren't these books listed? You have them and they are Cli Fi.

message 8: by Ned (new)

Ned Tillman I agree with the differentiation between Cli-Fi and Sci-fi. I like Cli-fi better because cli-fi is more literary and more centered on human psychology. I also like cli-fi when it is more near term and more believable that it will happen to the reader. I want to get the reader to get it on a more visceral level.

Ned Tillman is author of The Big Melt - it is on Goodreads

message 9: by Kelley (new)

Kelley Stoneking I just added Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. However, I'm second-guessing myself. It's about the moon being knocked closer to the earth, which begins a chain reaction of natural disasters and climate changes. If you feel it doesn't really fit, please delete it.

message 10: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Added Solstice.

Add them yourself.

message 12: by Rosa (new)

Rosa In the July 2019 issue of In These Times, there is an article called "Confronting the Climate Crisis Through Fiction" which introduced me to this term and some of these books.

message 13: by Vicki (new)

Vicki #16 and #73 are duplicates (The Ministry for the Future).

message 14: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell Friedman Vicki wrote: "#16 and #73 are duplicates (The Ministry for the Future)."

duplicates found and removed

message 15: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Vincentnathan I read a cli-fi book years ago and am looking for it. So if anyone knows, let me know.

It was set in the SF bay area. A super-volcano erupted in Antarctica that caused a rather sudden sea rise around the world, flooding San Quentin Prison, etc.

I can't remember the title, author, or year.

If you don't have my email, you can contact me at my screenwriting webpage under the name lynnvincentnathan on the "contact" page.
