It does sound good. Looking forward to reading it as well :)

It's no problem :) Take your time. I remember I was crying through quite a bit of it.

I watched The Muppet Christmas Carol. Still enjoyable. I was surprised to learn it came out in 1992, I was 3. For some reason I thought The Muppet Christmas Carol was older than me but i'm older than it lol.

Ohh I have got to +1 The Luminous Dead!

February's theme is, well any kind of creature as long as it's by a woman or non-binary author!
So nominate some books!
Nominations being seconded etc. are more likely to make it to the poll if there are a lot of nominations.
After this thread has been up for a bit and has some nominations a poll will be held with them to decide February's group read!

Well I finished it and have no idea what to rate it, but I did enjoy it for the most part.

I've now read 25 chapters
(view spoiler)[No, nooo, anything but this. Anyone but them. I was hoping so badly it wasn't Mr and Mrs. O. That they were actually decent foster parents who cared even if they weren't perfect. It's like a sucker punch of the worst kind. The only people who seemed to care, Mrs. O anyway, is a piece of shit.
After she's been through so much hell her entire life. It's like "abandon all hope ye who enter into this book". I mean it is a series so i'm sure she makes it out alive somehow (probably) but still. This is horrifying. (hide spoiler)]

I'm 72% of the way in, have read 22 chapters
(view spoiler)[Oh Mattie, I feel so awful for her. And i'm thinking now her mother went nuts because she was facing what Mattie is now and tried to kill her to protect her. Of course that's just a guess, but it really looks like that to me now. I'm thinking the gift/curse was passed down to Mattie. (hide spoiler)]I am enjoying it for the most part and it's definitely giving me emotions. Though sometimes I end up relating to Mattie and sometimes I know of people like Mattie and why they are that way. I want to hug her.

I keep crying. I am a book cryer. I am not ashamed.
Chapter 9
(view spoiler)["Why is this house so filthy?" she asks me.
"I'm not sure," I say. "I just got home from the hospital, Mrs. O."
"Is that any excuse for a dirty house?"
"No, ma'am."
"Get it clean, now!"
....yes, yes it is a good excuse actually. I just thought Mrs. O was actually caring and good and now this...doesn't make sense to me. I mean just saying that doesn't make sense to me. (hide spoiler)]Apart from that I'm enjoying it. I feel for Mattie, for reasons I won't say. She's been through so much awful crap, no one, especially a kid, should ever have to go through.

I just read chapter 5 and O_O
(view spoiler)[Who would do that to their child?! ANY child? It also made me remember something that happened with my ex a long time ago (about a decade ago or a little more, when I was 19). He is diagnosed with schizophrenia. He has hallucinations and hears voices. I had a stepdad that passed away due to cancer a couple years before this that he didn't know about at the time. He passed away on the couch in the living room. I forget why it was brought up but then he said he always saw a ghost there, an old guy just lying there for the most part, watching and described him. In detail. It was my stepdad.
Then I showed him a picture and he said yes, that was him. He thought it was just another hallucination that wouldn't go away. Also side note the neighborhood kids to this day say they hear someone walking around the house...no one lives there anymore. I don't know what to make of all of it but something that makes me think. K wrote: "Liking it- despite the odd swear words she uses lol"Lol, glad you're liking it so far. I'll hopefully read more tonight but i'm enjoying it so far too.

4 chapters in and thinking I spoke too soon. It's definitely got some creepiness to it too.

2 chapters in and it looks like it's more of a mystery then anything, but it does have ghosts. I'm interested so far and can see it's going to tug at my heartstrings, though that is easy to do.
Lol Jen, glad you have it ^_^
