They both sound interesting :) I might just check out Waking the Merrow for Merfolk May.

801397 I haven't read nearly as much as i'd like but I have a few Merfolk reads i've enjoyed!

I read Fathomless by Jackson Pearce earlier this year for BooktubeAThon and really enjoyed it. It's a bit of a twist, the "mermaids" don't have tails but I found it really interesting nonetheless. With the characters. It involves a set of triplets with powers, one can see the future, one the past, one the present. Celia is the one that can see the past, and feels very insignificant in comparison to her sisters.

Celia and Lo (an ocean girl/mermaid) rescue a boy that falls off the pier and form a friendship. Lo knows there is only one way to earn her humanity back (all of the ocean girls used to be humans) and that's to persuade a mortal to love her...and steal his soul.

It says it's the third in a series but it's a series of standalone fairy tale retellings. I've read (and enjoyed) the first 2, but they can be read in any order and as standalones. Fathomless is of course the little mermaid retelling, the first book Sisters Red is Little Red Riding hood (and has werewolves) and the second Sweetly is a Hansel and Gretel retelling. I still have to read the last one, Cold Spell which is a Snow Queen retelling.

Anyway i've also enjoyed a short story, it's an f/f romance between a witch and a mermaid. Moon-Bright Tides by RoAnna Sylver.

Rolling in the Deep and Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant which involves killer mermaids. I was disappointed by the ending of Into the Drowning Deep but still really enjoyed it over-all.

My favorite is Ice Massacre by Tiana Warner! It's the first of a trilogy (and I read it back in May and can't believe I still haven't continued! Though I do have books 2 & 3 now. I may re-read the first one and then continue) and involves lesbian mermaids (the romance is a very tiny part of the plot but I loved it!) and involves a war between the mermaids and the people of the Island. My full review is Here.

2 more short stories involving merfolk i've enjoyed is Loneliness Ebbs Deep which involves a squid shifter so...I guess that counts for merfolk. Short and sweet f/f romance (and erotic). The last being The Lonely Merman which is a short m/m romance with a merman. I have to re-read that one at some point so I can continue with the series.

Oh and I nearly forgot an ongoing webtoon involving mermaids I have been enjoying! It's very cute. Not too intense but I still find it cute and enjoyable. Strawberry Seafoam.

What are some Merfolk reads you've enjoyed?

801397 There will always be the folders for specific creatures (or if one doesn't exist one can be made or the "other" folder can work) and you can talk about specific books in those or start a thread about what books with that creature one is reading. Doesn't have to be a group read. Group reads just add some optional fun. They are never required.

Also for January's aliens I did decide to go with a short read and a longer read, though not sure if that'll work every month. Depends on what is available for the creature.
801397 Caytie wrote: "What kind of alien books? Like The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet or like Alien (Alien Movie Novelizations #1) by Alan Dean Foster"

Any kind really, as long as aliens are a part of it. It can be sci-fi, nonfiction, paranormal romance. Adult, Young Adult. etc. Only requirement is that it involves aliens, and is at least 250 pages in some way (as I know formats can differ in page length).

I'm sorry :(

801397 I love a good conspiracy theory too. I try to stay away from too many because they give me so many ideas and make me paranoid, but I have been wanting to check some out!

I hadn't heard of linking them to fairies. I'll have to check out those podcasts!

I've always been the kind of person begging the aliens to abduct me, but i'm not so sure that's a great idea anymore lol.

Heh ^_^

I've only chosen January's creature so far. After January's group reads are chosen i'll probably go right into nominations for February's, whatever creature that ends up being, just so we have a couple months head start.

801397 Figured why not start off with a thread about Aliens seeing as aliens is the creature for January's group reads.

Aliens....do you think they exist? Why or why not? How do you think you'd react if we had solid proof that they did exist? If they were visiting us? Let's hear your thoughts!

Personally I do think that they exist. Where or what they are doing I have no idea. I just figure with how large the universe is and all the planets out there and potential for life that it seems they are most likely out there somewhere.

Now if they are visiting us or not i'm not so sure. There are plenty of stories and theories, and if I saw proof that, yes they are visiting us, I don't think i'd be too surprised, but I also have more doubts about them visiting us than them just existing out there somewhere. Since them visiting us would require them being intelligent life forms and advanced enough to visit us somehow.

If I found out for sure that, yes aliens are here, i'm not sure how i'd react. My initial thoughts are "Cool! What are they like?!" but then i'd have to figure out, are they peaceful? Are they aggressive? What exactly are they doing here on Earth? And go from there.
801397 I'll nominate Testing Pandora by Kaia Sønderby (166 pages)
and Blurred Vision: Seven billion voices about to be silenced by Chris Botragyi (says 222 pages for kindle and 203 for paperback)
801397 I'll nominate Fluency by Jennifer Foehner Wells
801397

Starting off the year with Aliens! I want to give some time in advance so people have some opportunity to pick up a book in time if they want to join in, hence starting off in January since December is already close.

A short read being under 250 pages. I don't care if it's 10 pages or 150, you get the idea.

This thread will be up for a few days before being closed and then a poll will be held with the nominations.

Any full length novel with aliens in it. Full length being i'd say at least 250 pages.

I was thinking about it! ^_^ Not entirely sure how to go about that. Should I do a poll of creatures or a thread for nominations? And then a thread for nominations of books that have said creature?

I should have been more clear and put about instead of for. This thread is for suggestions to make to the group or questions about it. I just made a thread for Book Suggestions Here :)

Also I believe anyone should be able to make a thread, so feel free to make any thread you can think of. If anyone isn't sure where to put it or thinks another folder should be made just ask. I'm sure I didn't think of all the possible folders that should be made. It's a work in progress.
