Picked weeds, did laundry, grocery shopped, prepped dinner, whipped together a delightful blueberry/gin concoction and am now waiting for the guests to arrive!
Tomorrow we go look at the house in the country (again)...

My mom is an avid reader, my dad not at all. I remember Mom reading to us some - but I don't really enjoy being read to, and so when I was 4 and able to read to myself that kind of stopped. I know she kept reading to my sister, but I would rather go off by myself and read by then.

@Loretta - I had to laugh at your post. So true! Think he was writing what he knew?

Welcome Heidi! Glad to have you!!!

I was supposed to teach a seminar on Social Security's Online Services at our local library on Wednesday, but since no one came, I checked out
and am nearly done with it. I am really enjoying it, and relating a little too well to Katie. That's a bit frightening to me, because I'm not sure if I really like her or not! It's probably my favorite by Nick Hornby so far though.

England is also on my list - probably highest up on there! I always thought that not going to England after pursuing a degree in English was just wrong.
I would love to go back to Hawaii too...before my sister got married there I had no desire to go to Hawaii. After spending time on Kauai though, I want to go back. It's SUCH a perfect, peaceful place.

I read some Hemingway while matriculating and I had mixed feelings. His stories were interesting, but I remember actually thinking the phrase "mysogonist pig" while reading.
AND - I love the name Hadley for a girl. :) I think it's beautiful, and one of those names that works as well for an adult as for a baby. Some names I think work better for one or the other, you know?

Your bedrest does NOT count as you time, as you are sharing your BODY. It's funny, this me time in the evening does feel rather groundbreaking for me as well - I ended up walking for an hour - it felt sooooooo good. And now I keep looking forward to tonight, when I can do it again!

@Jason - HI! I'm sooooooooooo glad you're back! I've missed you!

@JenB - It wasn't what I expected, but yes, I did enjoy it. I think I ended up giving it 3 or 4 stars...it would have fallen in at 3.5 for me if I could have ranked it that way. I concur on Jeremy Irons being a good candidate for reading ANYTHING. :) And James Earl Jones! *Ok, I evidently like the cast of the Lion King?

I'm starting
Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War on audio tonight for my first walk all by myself! I've decided it's OK if I head out for just ME time in the evenings, and Mike is being very supportive. Of course I had to kick him out of here tonight to go do HIS errand running because I need my time to walk and he needs to get done and come hang with the kiddos. I don't want to have a timeline that I have to return by when I head out.
House hunting is not fabulous...the last two homes that had solid potential both already had offers on them. :( There's another one I really like, but the price has to come down A LOT - plus I'd have to figure out the logistics of living in the country with two kiddos who already are enrolled in school in town. So, I'm thinking at this point it's just NOT right. We'll keep waiting for that perfect opportunity. :)

@ Jen - I read The Alchemist, and I'm guessing I would have enjoyed it even more narrated by Jeremy Irons. It sounds excellent!

WOW Jason - It's going HIGH on my TBR. Never heard such a whole-hearted endorsement from you!

@Jen - thanks for the recommendations! I did enjoy
quite a bit - it was a quick read, and very well done.

Karli's now got to rant about my in-laws as daycare providers...I'm a terrible person, but I need somewhere safe to vent.
Today is day 3 of summer vacation. The kids have art camp in the morning, Gabe has science camp in the afternoon...and the past 3 nights they have been just spazzy, silly, out-of-control crazy kids....and that is really NOT like them. So, I asked today what they are eating all day....And it turns out the healthiest thing they've eaten over there in 3 days is grilled cheese.
Gabe didn't even eat a lunch today, it was some oreos and crystal light. Sooooo - the kids and I composed a list of foods, we talked about good choices, and Mike called his parents first and then I talked to them about what's going on with the kids, how they aren't used to eating this way and we really need to fix it. So, the kids and I are going to make a menu each week for Grandma, we'll go shopping and then they'll eat what's on their menu.
UGH. I know this is saving us $5000. But I'm wondering if the $5000 was maybe a bargain after all?

I liked
but I think it got over-hyped and it didn't live up to my expectations, even though it was a good book I really enjoyed.

Hey - wondering how our MA Bees are fairing after the nasty weather today. I'm starting to think Mother Nature is angry.

@Stephanie - Or, you just may end up not liking it. :) I am in the minority and didn't love it.

You guys are too funny. We have to pick out the dog AFTER we get the new house. Part of the new house is the doggie dream. In fact, that's much of the inspiration. I broke down and sent a list of wants to the realtor...we'll see if she wants us to sign a contract with her to look or not. I'm not big on contracts, I'm more than capable of looking on my own, but there was one particular realtor who I really loved at an open house and we've been swapping emails. We are picky people. but, we can be. We don't HAVE to move, we already have a pretty good house here. :)

I know Tam - Kristie was one of my favorite dogs of all time...I want to re-pet her or Cinder, Mike's dog. Then I'd be set! :)
I have to remember my tape measure when I do open houses!
