7638 Please, send happy Bee vibes buzzing towards my hometown! The vote is tomorrow for the tax to make our new library possible, and it's gotten pretty vicious. :( I'm hoping for a good vote tomorrow.

7638 @Tara - I don't think my mom knows fear. Irritation, yes. Fear, no. (Tam can probably attest to this one...)

AND IT IS FRICKING SNOWING AGAIN!!!!!!!! Boo-hiss! Sideways it is snowing, due to the wind being so fierce. Ugh, I'm not really excited to get my troops ready for Sunday School in this. :(

7638 I started The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan last night and I LOVE IT! It's better than the Percy Jackson books, IMO, and I really enjoyed them. I picked this one up kind of on a whim, thinking it would work for Author Alliteration...SO glad I did. I'm already about 150 pages in.

7638 I have to buy it before I can read it - so that's what's keeping me from reading it now. :P

7638 @Tricia - how fun to get to meet the author!!! Good for you!

7638 Seriously Amy, like that's going to allow me ANY self control???? I really have every intention of using this as my airplane read - but that means I have to resist for another 15 days...and your post does NOT encourage me to stay strong!!!

7638 I too have been on that tour, and I'm picturing myself in line behind your family...too funny! when we were kids we watched a cat give birth, and so we saw the kittens "come out of the butt" and were telling our mom about it and she slipped and said, "Well, how do you think anything is born?" and my sister's response was "You mean WE came out of your butt?!!?" which cause a very quick anatomy lesson in the car on our way to Bible school that day! And looking back I have to give my mom some props - I might have just turned the car around at that point and taken us home rather than risk the stories that would be told the second we got out of earshot.

The snow IS gone again, and today is finally 60 degrees. 2 1/2 weeks until our trip to Arizona though, so I should FOR SURE see some nice, hot weather then. I'm really looking forward to vacation, this winter has been never ending!

7638 @Steph & Lisa - That just seems rude to me - if I finish a REGULAR library book, I make sure to return it within a day. It's just fair. I can't imagine it's any harder to return an ebook, and probably less work than getting in the car and driving across town!

7638 I started and finished The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen today. For some reason I'd avoided getting it, and then it was on the clearance tables at B&N so I picked it up - and it was DELIGHTFUL. I loved it, and it's my favorite books of her so far. I'm looking forward to The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen in May.

7638 I agree!!! Of course, they are so good I'm forced to buy them.

7638 I'll probably have to buy it for my Kindle - for some reason our library doesn't have anything by Sarah Addison Allen.

7638 OMG...

Tonight Kasia asked "But how does the daddy PUT the baby inside the mommy?" Ugh...we named the act but didn't spell it out...I wasn't ready for that one yet. :(

7638 @Katy & Lisa - OK, that type of description makes me drool...can't wait to get my hands on it!

7638 This is shamelessly stolen from the Kindle Boards - but was a great day for Kindle owners! :) SOOOOOOO excited, as I figured when my local library starts with eBooks I'd just have to buy a Nook - love that this should allow me to check out books on my beloved Kindle! :)

Amazon today announced Kindle Library Lending, a new feature launching later this year that will allow Kindle customers to borrow Kindle books from over 11,000 libraries in the United States. Kindle Library Lending will be available for all generations of Kindle devices and free Kindle reading apps.

"We're excited that millions of Kindle customers will be able to borrow Kindle books from their local libraries," said Jay Marine, Director, Amazon Kindle. "Customers tell us they love Kindle for its Pearl e-ink display that is easy to read even in bright sunlight, up to a month of battery life, and Whispersync technology that synchronizes notes, highlights and last page read between their Kindle and free Kindle apps."

Customers will be able to check out a Kindle book from their local library and start reading on any Kindle device or free Kindle app for Android, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, or Windows Phone. If a Kindle book is checked out again or that book is purchased from Amazon, all of a customer's annotations and bookmarks will be preserved.

"We're doing a little something extra here," Marine continued. "Normally, making margin notes in library books is a big no-no. But we're extending our Whispersync technology so that you can highlight and add margin notes to Kindle books you check out from your local library. Your notes will not show up when the next patron checks out the book. But if you check out the book again, or subsequently buy it, your notes will be there just as you left them, perfectly Whispersynced."

7638 @Loretta - it's been over 10 years now...I was still in married student housing on campus...I rented the whole mini-series on VHS and watched it with my friend/pseudo little sister (my BFF from HS has a younger sister who is 7 years our junior, and Amanda is actually a much better match for me...she just finished her MA in my old English dept, we've been swapping books since she was about 11.) ANYWAY - after Amanda finished reading The Stand she had an overnight at my house (she was probably a freshman or sophomore in HS at the time) and we rented The Stand on VHS, ate Subway and spent over 8 hours inside watching TV in the middle of July. It's one of my most fun memories. :) I don't have Netflix because I really watch TV and movies so rarely. However, please do let me know if you liked it, because I remember adoring it - especially Stephen King's cameo. I really thought Molly Ringwald did a crap/whiney job of her character, but other than that really liked it. Especially Rob Lowe. :)

7638 I've been a King fan for years, and remember the whole Shining thing too...I think it was also around the time they did the mini-series of The Stand, which I LOVED.

I totally agree that The Green Mile was an EXCELLENT movie. As was Shawshank Redeption.

7638 Our library has a 3 week lending period, and are really lax about renewals, so I can hang on to a stack for close to 2 months, sometimes.

Tornados are something else. My hometown was hit by an EF4 2 years ago, and until you SEE what they can do, there is never a true understanding of what kind of havoc they can wreak in minutes. Glad you're safe!

7638 My husband and I took the kids to Fargo today to just go somewhere else for the day. We bought the kids a bunch of summer clothes so we are officially ready for our trip to Phoenix, hit B&N and the bargain tables and picked up some Agatha Christie for my mom for Mother's day, and grabbed some books that may work for the Christmas in July exchange and a book that I'm hoping to read with Mike. We'll see...he's FINALLY getting into books and I'm just hoping to be able to read something we can both enjoy.

7638 I really love both the Harry Potter book series and the movie adaptations. The books are better, but I've really enjoyed each of the movies.

I thought The Feast of Love by Charles Baxter was a good book and a very good movie - and it was certainly an adaptation, rather than a faithful conversion from page to screen.

Another series I've really enjoyed both on page and screen is The Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson . I've LOVED these books, and the Swedish films are very faithful adapations that have allowed me to really share the books with my husband.
