It is hideous. :( 6 inches of heavy, wet snow. Blech, blech, blech.
(and I'm sorry for whining...I keep thinking it's worse in Japan and other places, and I'm being a brat, I know!)
I keep going back to one of the quotes from the Anne of Green Gables series, "Snow in April is abominable. It's like being slapped when you are expecting a kiss." (I may have paraphrased here, but I think I'm close.)

6 inches of snow on April 15 feels like Mother Nature is abusive.
YUCK.

Good for you Garlan! Nice librarian! :)

Carys is a beautiful name! Love it! :) I know the 3rd trimester is terrible, thinking of you, and so glad you posted. It's wonderful to hear all is still going well.

I started
at the office today. I needed something to balance AK and W&P before I Tolstoy overload. :) I'm a few chapters in and it's really sucked me in so far.
I'm really enjoying
Anna Karenina as well - more than War and Peace. I laughed out loud at Stiva's attitudes and read passages aloud to my husband. I hope HE doesn't find his 33 year old wife as distasteful as Stiva does!!!!

and apparently "excited". I'm smirking over my need for a thesaurus!

I've got The Sparrow on my TBR, and Mother's Day is coming and I *MAY* have flagged the Amazon email reminding my husband that Mother's Day is coming...

OK, happy, excited Karli...
1st - I'm SO excited people seem up for my Christmas in July proposal. I'm so excited for another exchange! I love Stephanie's idea of the hometown items thrown in and anticipate a fun opening day come July 15.
2nd - Gabe got a new "big" bike and he's SO excited and loving the ride! I'm happy for him!
3rd - I was asked by my old university to serve as an alum on an advisory panel for the Integrated Studies Program where I was a happy student...ahem...several...years ago. :) I'm just so honored and excited to get to be a part of this program again.
HAPPY.

There's my girl! :) Good job Tam! I'm glad you introduced yourself.
And yes, reading FOR SURE runs in this side of the family! However, it appears it hits the eldest child hardest.

LOL - I was wondering how many books I can count AK and W&P as, since GoodReads is telling me I'm behind, and I was thinking that those two chunksters by Tolstoy should count as a few books instead of just 1 each...and then I could lower by goal by that number of books!
Either that or I have to start counting the books I read my kiddos at night!

@Garlan - You said this one (The Peach Keeper) isn't as magical as the others? I always have to buy her books because my library doesn't carry any by the author for some reason - perhaps I can wait on this one?

I finished
tonight - 2 1/2 stars rounded to 3. The writing isn't spectacular, and the first half of the books are basically the Italian Lessons given to Carter, our recent college grad, by Giancarlo, the Itailian music professor who teaches him the language over the course of a summer before the trip to Italy. I like travel stories, and once Carter GOT to Italy, I enjoyed the story more. It was a fairly predictable story, with not enough food, wine and travel for my tastes.

@Garlan - I saw The Peach Keeper on the Hive bookshelf, so someone has used it - check if there was a note saying where they plugged it in. Looks to me like it would fit the "Where's your face/head" task.

OK, Disney World is a GREAT way for them to spend time here, IMO. :) LOVE WDW! So glad you got to see your brother and the kids got to see their uncle. I know how mine just light up when my sister and brother-in-law are around.
Boo-hiss on any parents encouraging poor sportsmanship. It's not right at any age, but really, at Delaney's age level it's unforgivable that parents think it's OK to allow that kind of behavior. There isn't anything wrong with having a group of sweet kids. I hope you get to keep them that way!

A silly one I remember really crying over was
- I must have been about 13 and I BAWLED in my living room. My dad isn't a reader, but my mom is, and I remember he and my sister just staring at me as I blew my nose, wiped my eyes and kept turning pages.

@Vicki - My son loves the series too, I'll have to read one at some point.

I'm still slowly making my way through
and I'm sort of savoring the prose. The story is interesting, but it's the writing that I'm really loving with this one. I'll likely finish this weekend some time.
I also picked up
which is in a series my husband loves. So, I'm reading it because he really likes them, and it's the first time in our 12 years of marriage I've seen him read much more than a magazine. I'm totally underwhelmed by this one. The premise is fine, but the writing is terrible. I'll do my best to finish this one, but then I think I'll be done with his series unless he asks (and asks and asks) again for me to read it.
I've also got to catch up on my
. I was sooooo happy to score this version on BookSwap! It's in perfect condition. I'll likely still get a cheap/free translation for my kindle too, but it's nice to have the Volkhonsky translation too.

It's also a little validating. :) All the people in the Ivory Towers (i.e. upper management, Central and Regional offices) were deemed NON essential. HAH. They know that the cogs like me are valuable after all!

I found out today that my work has been deemed ESSENTIAL!!!!!!!!! :) I will keep working - which is a relief. :)

I adore my sister - yes, had a blast with her. There is never enough time though, somehow.
The "opportunity" is because of her - she started selling Monavie products recently, which are juices and shakes made with primarily acai berry. I started the shakes about 1 month ago, and have felt SO much better. It was supposed to be a weight loss thing, which I haven't seen a ton of, just a few pounds, but I FEEL so much better. I've got a ton more stamina, and am feeling better than I have in a long time. Then there are the juices, and one is supposed to be really good for people with ADHD, which my son has a mild case of...my husband and I differ on the medication thoughts. I say NO. He's not that bad. His mom was a teacher and thinks medicating children can be the best thing for them. So, I'm going to start him on the juice, and keep thinking..."What if this does work like the shakes worked for me?" It would be awesome. So...I've signed up under her, not so much to distribute as a job, but to get the discount, and then if it really, really DOES work for our family, it makes it a whole lot easier to share.
And the shut doown looms. I highly doubt I'll be working Monday. Boo Hiss. I WISH that Congress had a CLUE what real life looked like.
