35559 So I guess, it's an acquired taste... like ebooks versus paperbacks? Interestingly, here's another question: Which one do you prefer?

I love paperbacks, not only because they give me that "feel" and "smell", but also because I love to see them scattered about all over my house with people complaining that there is no place for them to sit. eBooks are great to have on my iPad for when I'm travelling, but you can't exactly display them with pride, can you?

35559 How do you guys do audiobooks? I tried one, during the last team challenge, and though I got through fairly quickly, I kept on falling asleep or drifting off and forgetting what I'd last heard. Besides I don't quite like the same narrator's voice for multiple characters. When I read (and sometimes, I read out loud), I tend to imagine/modulate my voice to suit different characters. It sorta brings to life the entire book. Somehow, I find that lacking in audiobooks.

35559 I tend to juggle between books a lot firstly 'coz I'm a mood reader and secondly 'coz I'm too impatient to wait to finish one story to discover another great one. For me it's sorta like real life. Just because you're in conversation with one person doesn't mean you would filter out everyone else, right?

Which means, some days in a row are a blank slate for me when comes to finishing a read, and some days I would end up finishing 3 or even 4 books.

What's your reading style?

35559 Hi guys! How's everyone gearing up? I'm looking ahead to a great weekend with books and hope to finish some just after the clock hits "start" on Sunday. Here's a question to kill time till then: Do you read books one at a time or read several simultaneously?
Mar 15, 2015 11:04AM

35559 Query: Last time we played this challenge, there was a rule that for non-fiction books we could only spell out using title or author's first/last name. Does this rule apply this time too? Or can we use character names as well?

35559 A quick hello to everyone! I was so excited to log in today and see that the teams were up! This is my 2nd wheel-a-thon and 5th team challenge on NBRC.

Here's something about myself...

I'm from India and work as a full-time Marketing Professional. Whatever spare time I get, and that includes when at work, I read. I read just about everything, from paperbacks to the backs of cereal boxes, although History (both fiction and nonfiction) and Fantasy are my favourite genres. I love to write too and someday hope to be a novelist. I'm obsessed with hoarding books and although I average reading about 50 books a year, I probably end up buying thrice that number.

The last I played a team challenge here on NBRC, I ended up reading 200% more than my committed number (imagine that!) That's why I love to be on these team challenges.

I'm a mood reader and I tend to move in between books a lot, so I'm not going to commit to what I can finish in a particular week, but I'll post as I go. Slightly upsetting for the team planning I think, but I'll try and make up for missing letters instead. Hope that helps!

It's nice to see everyone here and I'm sure we're going to have a great 8 weeks!

35559 The ones not on the shelf, but showing on the spreadsheet, are books that were under 100 pages. For some reason the spreadsheet pulled everything I've read since November, but some of them don't even qualify for the challenge.

BTW, let me say that I had a great time reading with you guys. It gave me a boost everytime I saw someone post their latest read, esp. Jingles. You read liek crazy!

I wish we could continue to hang around for a while to see how many more days we would have needed to reach 20,000 points. Well, that's just me not wanting the game to end yet :(

You guessed right Tea. I was lost when deciding my next read... And lo! You guys had posted another challenge. It's almost like the mods can read my mind! I absolutely had to jump right in.

35559 I'm not really new to the group but I don't recall if I've ever introduced myself formally. So here goes..

Birthday: 5th July... As true a Cancerian girl as there could possibly be

Favorite Book(s): Not without my Daughter by Betty Mahmoody... It was the first true "grown-up" novel I'd read, a true story that too, and the story totally floored me at the time. The Lord of the Rings would follow closely behind in the ranks.

Favorite Book Genre: Historical Fiction... Any day. And if it's based on the Tudors, even better

Favorite Author: Daphne du Maurier... at the moment

Favorite Color: Black.. makes me look thin

Favorite Food: Anything made from chocolate... hence the extra pounds... hence the need for black clothes

Any Pets: A dog (she passed away), a couple of fishes (also, passed away), two guinea pigs (given up for adoption last year), two cutest kittens ( for a week till I discovered I was allergic to cats)... So the answer would have to be... No

If I could live anywhere in the world it would be: Canada... Lots of space, very little civilisation, crazy cold and absolute wilderness

Finish the line: I know I'm a book addict because....who else would read 20 different books simultaneously?
