35559 @Kenya... Rebecca is perhaps the most popular of du Maurie's novels... but my personal favorite is Rule Britannia, which is unfortunately not as widely as it should be, followed by The King's General.

35559 Finished reading
My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier
Rating 4/5

Daphne du Maurier is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors. This was my 5th read by the author, and I revere her quality of writing. The manner in which she infuses gothic elements with romance, make for stories that are unpredictable and where every character is flawed, so that you can't really say who is the hero of the story and who the villain.

I have another 4 books by du Maurier lying in wait on my shelf. Can't wait to get them started!

Been a while since I checked-in. This book was a slow read for me, interesting in parts, plain in others.

35559 Hey guys...sorry I've been having a slow reading week with it being festival time here in India. With the end of this weekend, I'm getting back to my normal routine, so I'm catching up on my reading now. I started reading Sleeping Murder (Miss Marple, #13) by Agatha Christie earlier today and I'm hoping to finish it off by tomorrow.

35559 Karen, in the Books Read Thread...do you prefer a new post to be posted when a book is finished or should I just update all my reads in a single post?

It was a bitter-sweet book for me. It's a romance that's haunting but beautiful. The strangeness of the story was so unexpected and I could identify very closely with the protagonist; I could feel her pain, see through her depression, and all this I attribute to Hoffman's talent as a writer. When I started reading the reviews of the book, before beginning the book itself, I could see that people either loved it or disliked it and in the end I think I know why. Hoffman speaks of tragedy in way that makes you believe that all of it is happening for real. I think after this, I'm going to be wanting more of this author.

I hear Practical Magic is one her more popular books. Has anyone read that one?
