35559 OK, I held back my Rick Riordan from the library so I can use it for the three hour sprint on Friday morning. Then if book club is over on time I will do the four hour Friday evening and let Sheila read all weekend for the five and six hours.

I keep trying to find a book that will link the book chains together. Witch Lord? Witch and Gypsy?

35559 I'm going to PM Moonlight the suggestion that we move Stone Cold to the chariot event and she pick a short book for event 2, because the discussion was about six hours up.

Of course, saying this is another chance to see it -- the question is, is the Stone Cold book the C J Box one, and can she find another shortie?

35559 Sheila, I don't see why not. The thing is you can only read 2 books for the six hour sprint, so make sure you have enough pages left!

Rule: Round 6: 6 hour sprint (2 books may be used if a book is completed during sprint)

35559 @ Sheila, the rules say:

Olympics rules:
No bonus rounds may be STARTED until all events have been marked √ COMPLETE.

Page jumping rules:
Heats 3 & 4 are BONUS ROUNDS and may only be started after all other Olympic Events (1-5, all parts to "complete" tasks) are COMPLETE.

I read that as "start the books" -- what do you think? Could it mean "start filling in the blanks?"

35559 Nope, unless you want to. Turns out we can do whatever we like.

I mean, if you'd rather only commit to 10 hours of reading instead of 11 I can switch. I just worried because all the other events made us space ourselves out.

35559 Moonlight, are you reading C.J. Box's Stone Cold (Joe Pickett, #14) by C.J. Box ? With that cover? Because if so, I think it would count for the Landscape category in Event 5.

Then you could pick a very short book for Event 2 -- we've saved several 100-150 page count spots for busy-emergencies. That's all you HAVE to do for this round, although anything extra will be easily accepted :-)

Ang, could you check the cover because my screen is so bad. I think it's a car driving over a big plain, which is exactly what the rules call for "a large open landscape (plains) "

35559 If you can see the whole dragon, I like the idea of having a dragon pull our chariot! And I'll take Curran anytime! The rules say if you have to ask, the answer is probably no, but me asking doesn't count because I can't see the covers clearly. So if you see the lion, let's take the lion! I'd say Curran is definitely fully in the picture in #5, even from the tiny picture if you have that one let's use it.

Maybe we could use the sword in Magic Bites as a decoration. Curran would like that.

35559 Sheila, Kindle thinks they had page numbers for The Shining Girls so maybe you've just never looked and that left hand corner trick will work.

On Sunday someone one taught me how to remove expired library books from my kindle app home screen, so I know it's easy not to know how to do something you didn't know could be done. And I still don't know how to go directly to the first page of a book in my NOOK app, but I know it is possible because sometimes I do it accidentally...

35559 Looking at the rules, they don't have to be scheduled at a particular time (so you don't have to match up with someone's schedule). You mark your start and end times and page count and send it to the moderator (who's our moderator?).

But they have to be done in order. If the one and two hours ones can happen by the end of Thursday, I could do my three and four hour ones on Friday so Sheila can do the five and six hour ones over the weekend. I think I want to do my Rick Riordan for the three hour one, so if I could do that on Thursday you would save me 10 cents in a library late fee, but I'm willing to keep it an extra day FOR THE TAPIRS.

It does have to be a big animal, but I LOVE that knife. The spreadsheet is at

if you want to sign up (or I can put you in the spot, if you are mobile).

The saw also looks good if you prefer, or you can do both :-)

35559 Also, my kids are gone through next Tuesday, so it would be much easier for me to do my fight club rounds soon.

I think I got confused about not having to actually finish the book for it to count (just read the pages) with not being able to use the book elsewhere (which you can't IF you don't ever finish it, duh).

And is it officially OK for me (and Sheila) to double up? Even back to back? I don't see any mention in the rules of that. If we aren't supposed to go back to back, I could swap the five hour with Sheila (if we don't get any other volunteers), so that I do 3 and 5 hours and she does 4 and 6. But if I can do my short sprints of 3 and 4 hours, I'd love to do them by next Monday at the latest, so that means having sprints 1 and 2 done soon.

This is the cover La historia interminable by Michael Ende"

The only thing I'm worried about is the part of the rules that say:
"▲ This is a COVER EVENT, all items MUST be on depicted on cover of Edition Read
▲ On the COVER of Edition Read, all items MUST be shown in full"

From my screen I can't tell if we see the whole dragon or just its head -- is that the rest of the dragon in the background or a mountain range?

35559 Since I managed to misremember half the rules for fight club (oops) I went back to look. I think the only thing I was right about was no audio books:

"NOTE ~ For the Fight Club Sprint - audiobooks, text readers and/or any speed reading apps are absolutely NOT allowed. Ways in which reading can be sped up in any way will be grounds for disqualification from the fight. Fight honest and fair!! Ebooks are allowed, but must have page numbers. If you use a Kindle, please find the corresponding page counts. Percentages will not be accepted and will be grounds for disqualification from the fight!"

35559 We can work on any event now..

EVERYONE has to read a book for 2 and 5, so we recommend starting with those especially if you have limited time in the next few weeks. (Probably not a problem in your case :-). Also, most events have bonus rounds, but we have to finish the basic parts of ALL events before going on to the bonus rounds.

For fight club: You can't use audio books for the sprints -- it's just taking out a paper or ebook and reading as many pages as you can for the time allotted (between 1 and 6 hours). Readers are allowed 2 books for the 4, 5, and 6 hour sprints. You don't have to finish the book, and you can't use the book(s) you do finish for a different Olympic event. (Although you can use them later in Wobble.)

Do you think you can read for the big one, six hours?

35559 I can read quickly, although I'm probably better at the shorter levels. I have some problems with attention span, and you have to stick with the same book. So nothing higher than the 4 hour, and I'd prefer one of the wimpier fights.

35559 Does everyone have their Event Two book staked out? I put both of the library book that are due back on Thursday in there, but if someone wants that spot I can pull one back. Everyone HAS to read a book for Events One, Two and Five.

Do we want some (Ang?) to "adopt" Event Five and make final calls for books? It's all about designing the chariot, so it might be nice to have someone keeping track of final decisions like team colors and stuff.

35559 Our captain is watching the last book closely -- she'll let us know as soon as it is ready.

I'm reading about a zombie infestation on cruise ships, so it's good preparation for my vacation next week. I need to have all my reading lined up before I head out so I can pack/download it before I go. I leave on the 15th, so it will still be Olympics, I think.
