The Harpy Eagles were collecting all the conversations so they could send them together to the moderator. I did notice that while I was talking up my books :-)

35559 So, our conversation with the Harpy Eagles would count for the new challenge thing for participating in discussions -- shall I give you a link? Do you have a link, Carmen, since you were part of it? Do I link to the comment page I was on or to one of my specific comments?

I'm reading it anyway, so we can comment. Do we need someone to start a thread or do we just comment on the book? Our teams have an official buddy thread for the challenge from Raze, I think.

35559 OK, let's do the Jumping Book for a buddy read. I'll try to have it done by tomorrow as well!

35559 The Harpy Eagles seem to like my suggestions (do any of you?) but also suggested: Raze (Scarred Souls, #1) by Tillie Cole or Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire, both of which can work for coaching books in the Fight Club event.

Anyone interested in reading those?

35559 Well, The Reason I Jump does happen to be only 135 pages. Which by coincidence is exactly what we still need on Event 2. So I was going to read it anyway if I finished Bronze Gods before someone grabbed those spots.

35559 Hello Team Harpy Eagles, I am Beth from Team Tapirs with some suggestions for a buddy read! Our captains thought we might be a good team fit for the buddy read thing.

I've got Ancillary Justice (Imperial Radch, #1) by Ann Leckie Ancillary Justice which is a science fiction book that won some awards and does some interesting things. Most famously, its main character comes from a society that doesn't differentiate between men/women, so she just calls everyone "she' because she can't tell the difference. Sometimes we find out she's wrong, often not. Also, she used to be a space ship.

I am currently about to read that for a book club, and I read it a year ago, so I could lead the discussion.

If science fiction isn't your thing, how about The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism which is another book that got some buzz a while ago. I haven't read it before but it looks interesting. Also, it's short.

What do you think?

35559 Ah there it is. So we can finish Heat 1 soonish, I guess. Thanks Ang!

35559 What happened with my crazy book Time Traders? It got taken out of the spreadsheet. Is it ruled not a book, a book with 150+ pages (per goodreads), or a book with 144 pages (amazon)? Or should I read the back half? I don't particularly mind reading the next book in the series, but I won't if it won't do us any good.

35559 Hey, we could use a discussion about what book to use for a buddy read for Task G. How do we talk to them?

35559 For a Buddy read:

I'm about to read Ancillary Justice for a book club -- that's a science fiction book that won some awards and does some interesting things with narrative (frex, the main character comes from a culture that doesn't differentiate men & women, so she calls everyone "she" because she can't tell the difference). But it's solidly science fiction, which some people shy away from.

The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism is a short book that might be a good Buddy read.

The cover and date matches the one marked 152 pages, but it definitely has 144 pages, so I'll switch to the edition with 132 pages and move it down to the shorter book for Event 2.

It's even odder. Goodreads says it's 152 pages (I just checked to see why I put myself in Book 2's spot.) I'm super confused so I'm going off to read my Bronze book for Event 3.

35559 Captains, I got a weird book question here.

I'm reading Time Traders for the Sword and Laser book club. I grabbed the free Amazon copy and was going to use it for the Page challenge -- it says is has 144 pages. Great!

Except when I get to page 144, the book is only 50% done because as a bonus they include the next book in the series, only this one doesn't have page numbers! The file is Time Traders / Galactic Derelict, and the Time Traders part is page numbered so goodreads thinks that's the length of the book. They were originally published as 2 books back in the 1950s or so, and I guess Baen in 2001 figured they might as well bundle them for the ebook.

So... do I have to read the second book? I read a complete book, and it matches the page count goodreads has, but I didn't finish the file. If I do have to read the second half, is it still fair to use this book for the 100-150 pages spot, when it clearly has double that many pages even if only half of them were numbered?

(I was wondering why KINDLE thought it would take me 2 hours to read the last few pages...)

35559 We need ropes, wheels and tools for the chariot, and we need you there. On my shelves, tools are the hardest, so the ax book looks great, but really any of those work so just go with what looks tasty!

35559 Anarchy and Old Dogs (Dr. Siri Paiboun, #4) by Colin Cotterill has bicycles in it, which match our other wheel, but it's the fourth in the series so I don't know if you want to jump in there.

A Burial at Sea (Charles Lenox Mysteries #5) by Charles Finch has plenty of rope for our chariot. Still not the start of the series, though.

35559 The Maxie and Stretch books starting with The Serpents Trail all have a vehicle on the cover, so they work for the wheel category.

It looks like the wheels on Broken Dishes are off a wagon, so that should work as well.

The Axe Factor has a working ax for a tool; that would work.

I'll post these and look for some more.
