35559 @Plethora -- I read a YA book on purpose for my sprint choice. Big print, generous white space -- all about turning those pages :-)
35559 I loved this book -- I read it a year ago and just had to reread it for a book club. I think there is a lot of stuff going on in it, and some of it was confusing to me the first time through, so I think it is really worth rereading.

Here are some things our book club talked about (no spoilers!):

The pronoun thing -- some people found it incredibly distracting. Does it make a huge difference to default to "she" all the time? So much so that the narrator absentmindedly use the feminine pronoun even if she knosw the person is actually male? I found that I soon thought of everyone as androgynous -- even though Breq tells you her gender and that of the person she rescues in the snow, I forgot them within a few pages.

I liked how it made me think about what it means to be a person, to be human. (view spoiler)

Another thing I kept thinking about as I read it was where the title of the book came from; well, more how many places it came from. I liked the layers of that.

Since I've zipped ahead and finished it, you guys set the pace so I know what parts I can't talk about yet. Everything in this note (even the spoilers) is covered in the first few chapters; most on the first page or so.

35559 Do they fight in a cage match? If it's any kind of organized combat it might work for a coach book.

35559 Erin, I moved Magic to the Bone to the bonus round and I'm reading a naked arm book: Royal Street (Sentinels of New Orleans, #1) by Suzanne Johnson

35559 I say we've got the bonus dispensation that makes something plural -- let's use it. Island of Ghosts is declared to be Island of Ghost by the power of our group discussion or whatever else it was we did.

On naked arms, I thought the final ruling was that Armadale by Wilkie Collins and Ruby Red (Precious Stone Trilogy, #1) by Kerstin Gier were officially legal. My girl's sleeve is about the same size, but a little higher up, so maybe covers too much shoulder?

I've also got Polity Agent (Agent Cormac, #4) by Neal Asher which I have to read sometime in July and that definitely works, but I was in the mood for a romance. I'll start Polity but hope someone convinces me the Enchanting one would work before I get too far. In any case I should be done on Friday.

35559 Do you guys think this arm is naked enough? Only Enchanting (The Survivors' Club, #4) by Mary Balogh

I want to read it anyway, and it should be fast enough that I could finish it by Friday. Then Erin could read her arm book when we get into the bonus rounds.

35559 Books are pouring in!

Erin and Carmen, you each have 3 books left in the base rounds. Are those almost done, or do you want to share the load? None are in places where you are the only one allowed to read. And if we replace the Event 3 books, you can easily drop them back into the bonus round for extra points.

Ang
7 Grams of Lead (Event 3)

Carmen:
Fat Vampire (Event 2 201-250 pages )
An Unhuman Journey (Event 2 151-200 pages)
Touched by the Boss (Event 2 100-150 pgs -- started)

Erin:
Temptation (Event 3 up to 250 pgs -- started)
Magic to the Bone (Event 3 naked arm)
Agatha Raisin and Quiche of Death (Event 5 Knife on cover)

Paula:
The Neverending Story (Event 5)

Plethora:
Island of Ghosts (Event 1)

35559 @ Carmen Hey, your book is by Sylvia Day which is a good sign because the library book I just picked up for the 15 chain is also by her. So I'm hoping that's a lucky sign. Picking books solely for their first and last words is a bit of a gamble.

There were two other Heat...Night books but they were either checked out or too short. The one I meant to read initially (because the ebook was available) turned out to be under 100 pages -- phooey! Heat of the Night

35559 Paula, did you finish Neverending Story?

Just keeping my lists up to date.

Ang, I really like Wen Spencer's books. Her Tinker series is great (first book Tinker) -- energetic characters, amazing world building, plot that never stops, and terrible sex. You might try her stand alone A Brother's Price which is completely different but gives a sense of her writing style.

I did finish The Saturdays, which is Event 2. After I had to swap for original planned because it was too short in word count.

I need to replace [boo..."

Plethora, I think that's one of our bonus options -- can we use that for your book?

35559 If you don't have anything else, read flowers for the decoration. Actually, any decoration will do, but I like the idea of a Tapir eating our chariot after the race :-) Also fight books.

Remember, if it fills up, feel free to bump me out. I am still avoiding my decoration book.
