35559 Sheila, the decorations for the chariot aren't for nothing. We actually get more points for them, as long as we finish the chariot, and they don't count as bonus books so there is no question about reading them early. As long as we fit you into the base chariot somewhere as well it helps our score a lot.

I grabbed a second a book because it was skinny when I finished my first one during the sprint, but it turned out it only has thin pages so it didn't fit in the Page Jumping event after all. I want to put it in decorations because it has some lovely flowers and a background of vines so I think it would work for our colors of Green and Yellow and our theme of "things a Tapir would eat." Listen, Slowly by Thanhha Lai

I hope your books are engrossing enough to take you away from all the frustrations of the situation! For what it's worth my brother's kitchen is lovely now, but it was a month of horror for them as the water damage results came in. I hope you have already heard the worst and that your weather stays hot and dry to speed up the process!

35559 Sheila wrote: "So a noose wouldn't work for rope either than, right?"

It should work, because you need a lot of rope to make a noose, right?

Also, wheel shouldn't be hard to find -- any car on the road should do:

▲ Wheels must be "a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground" and of a size that can SUPPORT the Chariot/Driver
(wheels off a car, bike, wagon.... are ok; a ferris wheel or roulette wheel are not)

I stay stick with the colors Green and Yellow because 1) We found books for them 2) They are the color of stuff tapirs eat, and 3) They are bright and fast!

My book, Quick Fix, is for tool on the cover (saw)"

We need two tools. Your saw is in use!

35559 OK, I will start the 4 hour sprint in a half hour or so -- I need to set up my reading nest.

Sheila, I think they moved you off the 12 letter thing because you had two and someone needed a spot. If you can't find something else that fits then maybe stuff will move around again?

35559 I'm more concerned with the quality of materials you've got for us there.

I was joking, but then I went to look up the rules, and they say:

"When in doubt, ask yourself if you can USE the item to actually CREATE this Chariot. If you have to question it, the answer is no! "

So I'm a little worried. Do you have another book that would fit in Event 5?

35559 So looking through my summary, I first wonder why I didn't bother to alphabetize until the middle, and then I see that I am currently reading two books (Time Traders and The Sword of Summer) and I am on the hook for one more (Bronze Gods). And I am waiting for the baton from Carmen for a sprint.

When I finish those I should read read books with arms and tools and wheels on the cover as well as short books, and then books about fighters. And if I finish THOSE and we still aren't done, (I doubt this will happen) I will see if anyone wants to trade out books they haven't started yet. And I can read for decorations for our chariot.

If we get a ruling about whether we can read ahead the BONUS books I will work on those, but I'll wait for the ruling.

35559 Like Ashley, I thought it meant we couldn't even start books for bonus until the required rounds are done. But in the bullet point about Heat 1 of Event 1 it explicitly says "No books may be STARTED" and then it doesn't say that about the bonus rounds.

So now I'm confused as well. I've still got the books I promised for the beginner rounds to read (I'll work at that during the sprint) and then I was planning on looking at the spreadsheets and nibbling away at empty spots, but it would be nice if some clever person explained it to me.

35559 This is what the rules say (from https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...)"

Events
▲ Individual Events have their own rules and points system, please review carefully
▲ Heat 1 of Event 1: Title Relay must be completed prior to starting Event 2!
No books may be STARTED for any other Olympic Event until Heat 1 of Title Relay is COMPLETED and is entered into the spreadsheet!
▲ No bonus rounds may be STARTED until all events have been marked √ COMPLETE.

35559 Do we want a summary of what we've completed/ signed up for / need volunteers for? I haven't been reading much today but I could throw that together based on the TAPIRS RULE spreadsheet.

35559 Put it after Erin's Witch Blood, and then move Jennifer's Music of the Heart & Plethora's Heart of a Dog and BOOM we are at 18.

And I would LOVE an excuse to reread Dog Warrior -- anyone got a Warrior book to make it 20?

35559 Starts with Blood and ends with either:

Music
Six
Gypsy
Lord
To
Duel
Life
Brutally

Any of those would be great :-)

35559 Wait, so we can read for the bonus rounds already? I thought we had to wait until we could mark everything complete!

Ashley is talking about The Moon and More and Revenge of the Witch, for the 15 chain that we've built. Sheila, can you look at it? If can can hook it to one of the little chains we could have a 20 chain!

Erin's book Witch Blood is a great hook chance -- lots of books start with Blood; we've got to be able to get one of them to link back into the little chain! (Erin, I wrote you book into the spreadsheet, is that OK? It has to be at least a two word title).

35559 Sheila, since Carmen took the three hour, I can take back one of yours, unless someone else wants an excuse to read for a huge stretch of time this weekend. I plan will fool my tiny brain by doing the four hour read as 2 two hour shifts back-to-back. I could do that three times for the 5 or 6 hour sprints.

Let us know what you need -- you may want to keep one as an excuse to barricade yourself in a library for an afternoon.

35559 Sounds perfect -- if you do it early enough I can follow with the four hour in the late morning. I do NOT tend to get up really early :-)

35559 Carmen, did you want to do one of the timed sprints? You signed up as a coach. I am QUITE willing to share one of my sprints with you -- I'm signed up for the 3 hour and the 4 hour one. I think Plethora is doing the 2 hour tonight, so one of us should do the three hour Friday morning.

And then Sheila may want to give us one of her sprints, after the disaster at her house. Sheila, I'm so sorry! That kind of thing is so horrifying, annoying, expensive and inconvenient! Was it an appliance? I remember when my brother found out their kitchen refrigerator was defective by having it leak so much it set off the fire alarm in the basement...

35559 Carmen, I put Naked in Death in the spreadsheet for the title chain, but then I noticed it was on your list. Do you want to read it or shall I reread it?
