And we are OK if the people we couldn't fit in Heat 1 read something in Heat 2. So if people don't want to feel pressured, don't hesitate to make the jump. We'll work it out. We just need 7 different people in Heat 1, and we are well over that.
OMG, Sheila, that's so scary. Near misses really bring home how precious people are.And you were not one of the people I was worried about feeling the pressure... Hey, do you have any likely books ending with HOTEL or beginning with SHADOWS?
Yes, you can read book from both heats at the same time.If anyone slotted in Heat 1 thinks they won't get done for most of the week, maybe we should see if they want to move to Heat 2 so they don't feel pressured. I forget that we don't all have weekends off.
I was eyeing the grand chain as well. But it's a Bonus Round, and we have to finish the basics for all the rounds before starting it.
Oh, and the web page for the spreadsheet is https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Ang, we should probably have one for the next event, which is all page counts -- do you want to make that? We should probably title it NOT YET or something. I could make it and then you could make it look good, if you rather. I have noticed that you are much more spreadsheet adept than I am :-)
This is what I get from the rules:* We can only read for Event 1 until we finish all three legs of Heat 1.
This means we CAN read for legs of Heat 2, but that's it until the captains hand in a complete Heat 1, all three Legs. We should probably plan the rest of Heat 2 while we can.
* Everyone must read a book either in Heat 1 or 2.
Sheila shows up twice, so if Paula or Miranda have a book ending in SUMMER they could take her place in Leg 1.
Carmen also reads twice, so if they have a book ending in ICE she'd probably give you her spot in Leg 2.
Nancy and Ang also read twice, but their books are in the middle, so to take one of those spots they'd either have to read a book that starts with SUMMER and ends in HOUSE or that starts with ICE and ends with COLD (Nancy)
or
starts with COLD and ends with MAGIC or that starts with BLUE and ends with BLUE (Ang).
If we could get everyone in heat 1 that would be great, but it's asking a lot. But Paula and Miranda should work out a chain for Heat 2 -- if one other person can match them that's Heat 2 Leg 1 right there.
* In Heat 2, you can read several times in a leg, but not back-to-back. So we could go Bad Blood (Beth) -- Blood Rites (Jen) -- Rites to be Wicked (Beth) except that I made that last book up so I'd have to write it before I could read it, which might take too much time...

We have our final leg! With over 12 hours to spare, too
@erin or @Miranda: Do you have a book starting with CHRISTMAS or ASYLUM? That would be the final leg of our 7 chain.Failing that, do you have one starting with SMOKE? That would also be the final leg, but would knock Plethora out of heat 1.
You have to have at least three fingers. I brought home
that should work. I hope that person on the cover doesn't turn out to be an alien. I'm not sure aliens. count.
It's very loosely defined. Animals to pull it, stuff to build it, colors to paint it... But yeah.https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I'm a big fan of C.J. Box as well.
I do not remember any vampire rule. When we finish heat one, we need to do the first heat of Event two, which is page-count based.Since I was looking for rules, I noticed stuff for other events. Here's a heads up for people going to the library:
Event three needs books with the words STONE IRON LEAD BRONZE in them. Also it needs four books with naked arms on the cover.
Event four would go better with books about fighting (wrestling, boxing, MMA)
Event Five is cover based, with parts for a chariot.
And since our 7 chain is still a six chain, if someone wants to build on BOY instead of CHRISTMAS, ASYLUM, or SMOKE, feel free. But we should give Erin, Miranda, and Paula, (and possibly Plethora, if someone finds SMOKE before CHRISTMAS or ASYLUM) first dibs.
Speaking of Smoke, I like Tanya Huff's books about a guy who works for a Canadian vampire TV show who has a real vampire for a friend and finds himself juggling his job with dealing with various magical threats. They are a spin off of her Vickie Nelson "Blood" books, which got made into a TV show once.Smoke and Shadows

Death of a Gentle Lady (Sheila)
Lady Midnight - Carmen
Midnight Blue - Beth
Blue Lily, Lily Blue - Ang
Blue Christmas - OR Blue Asylum - Plethora OR Blue Smoke -- Jennifer
We've got a six chain that needs a book ending in DEVOTED or a book starting with CHRISTMAS, ASYLUM or SMOKE to become a seven chain. We've got some matches to start a five chain. That's a good place for people to go. Some spreadsheet savvy person has cleaned up the sheet so we have the proposed legs, and below it a working proposal area, and below that we try to list some prospective titles. I'll go away now, but I will read just about anything so if you need an "inside straight" I will see what I can come up with.
I'm a bit disappointed I don't need to read "BAD BLOOD" because it would have filled the Alaska square on my 50-state challenge :-).
@Sallie, do you have a book that starts with the word Christmas or Asylum? That would help us build the 7 chain.
