35559 Actually, according to my little chart, I'm messed up somewhere because I don't see space for 2 more 3 spacers. So I'm probably wrong about everything and I'll just go back to reading...

35559 I like corners, so I say A10.

35559 I think the 2nd 4spacer is at G4-J4. We can't sink it, but picking G4, I4 or J4 would be hits. If I'm right.

Not definitely. If the boat is a two spacer, then yes. If it's a three spacer then we haven't sunk it and no. I am taking advice from my nephew now.

35559 Another 50/50 chance is H6/I7. One of those will sink a two space, the other is a miss. If we sink something with our next guess, that's an option for an extra shot.

35559 OK, there is DEFINITELY a hit at C8, and a 50% chance of sinking the 5 space at either A5 or A10. Do we go for the sure hit, or gamble on getting a big score?

GO BIG OR GO HOME I say. On the other hand, I do have a nice home.

35559 Oh yeah, hits vs. misses are vital for strategy!

35559 All right! I'm holding off on starting my next new book while I wait.

35559 Your copy is the master. I'll check what you have and use it to update the planning sheet. Everyone gets this is just a group-wide message board, not an official thing.

I started shading the stuff that appears on the master sheet so we know that it's final, btw. And someone saw me do that and added to it so I felt all teamwork-y. :-)

35559 Oh, I finished Lock In (Lock In, #1) by John Scalzi and I'm going to read a classic. I'm looking for categories where we have half done, because I think we only get points if we did both.

I'll probably read a children's classic, so don't look for great things from page count for me...

35559 Olympics! All I know about it is apparently we won't be able to read books we've started but not finished.

We get ten shots, so I follow your reasoning but do similar things in more spots. So I'd put G6 to catch the horiz spot in row 6, then H4, I5 and J3 to catch the pile of vertical spots we have there.

A7
A9
C5
C7
G6
H4
I5 (with I6 we could miss a 4 space ship from I2-I5)
J3

With the remaining two we could do A6 because the board would be prettier with a big ship along that column. And maybe I6 because I trust your instincts, Sheila.

35559 About the only place I disagree with Sheila and Ang is D5/6. Because two ships can't be next to each other, there is much less space on column D that it looks like. D7 and D4 are both blocked.

Also, if you are looking at my page, I don't know how to make all the columns the same width so it's not to scale :-)

35559 There's also one more 4 space boat. And I think this is our round of shots.

If we do

A7 C5 C7 G6 H4 I5 J3

That gets all the 4 & 5 boat spots, and only leaves 3 untapped 3 man spots. Or we could do the G5 J4

A9 is next to our current hit and looks tasty. If we think the mods like corners (two corners were hits) that's two more shots:

A30 J1. I'm not too confident of this corner theory, though.

(I put a tab on my to-read sheet so I can move stuff around, if you want to play. My suggestions are yellow, and I'm going to put Ang in with green and Sheila in orange.

35559 Mercy Falls would count as H-1 Top 100 name in either Ireland or England, and Taking Eve could I think be used for D-4 Ten or more books in series, which would let Jennifer's Immortal Heart be used in Romance or fantasy (we got lots of spots for those).

I'll read Lock In (Lock In, #1) by John Scalzi Lock In by John Scalzi, which also works for H-1 so we have a pair. (And Lock In also works as fantasy or short title.)

35559 No problem Sheila! I'm not very spreadsheet savvy myself; when I was co-treasurer of our local PTA I was only allowed to make reports; the shy person who actually did the work barred me from touching the actual numbers because I was so clueless.

Do you know what you are reading next?
