35559 At the bottom of my list on the Olympics Titles Relay tab I wrote that my to-read list is where to look if you are "peeking" me; my library is pretty good so I can get most of them and if not I might be able to compensate. I pulled "Bad Blood" from my local library shelves to link Bad==> blood.

35559 >Do Sallie, Ashley, Erin, Jennifer, Miranda or Paula have any books that end with "Summer" or "Lady"? They could trade one of Sheila's spots.

Or books starting with "Christmas, because if Leg 2 ended up being seven books long we would only need 5 books for Leg 3.

35559 Heat 1:

Leg 1: One Summer (Sheila) - Summer House (Nancy) - House of Sand and Fog (Moonlight)

Leg 2: book ending with "Lady" (Sheila) - Lady Midnight (Carmen) - Midnight Blue (Beth) - Blue Lily, Lily Blue (Ang) - Blue Christmas (Plethora)

Leg 3:

We need to get Sallie, Ashley, Erin, Jennifer H, Miranda, and Paula in the leg.....unless anyone can add to before or after either of legs 1 or 2.

Do Sallie, Ashley, Erin, Jennifer, Miranda or Paula have any books that end with "Summer" or "Lady"? They could trade one of Sheila's spots.

And remember, we can't start these books until July 2nd

All books for Olympic Games must be STARTED after July 2nd at 11am London time .

My house of cards has fallen. It was mostly a logic exercise when my eyes got tired. But it would be nice to get all of us in the first heat.

35559 @ Sheila: I meant in ADDITION to your Leg 3 book -- is that still OK? Do you not want to read Dark Wings? I knew it was a long shot when I built that long chain.

If Sallie reads the Lady book, and my paper chain of seven doesn't break, we have the whole team reading a book in Event One. That's not strictly necessary -- everyone has to read something in either this heat or heat two, but it means we don't have to worry about it for this event any more.

35559 So, this is a bit presumptuous, but I needed a break from reading. So I went snooping around all our goodreads to-read lists and made a giant chain. But of course, sometimes we don't actually have the books on our goodreads shelves, and altough I tried to pick from newer things on the list, sometimes I had to go back to 2010 or so. So probably some of these won't work.

1. The Second Captive (Erin)
2. Captive in the Dark (Paula)
3. Dark Wings (Sheila)
4. Wings of the Wicked (Ashley)
5. Wicked Ugly Bad (Miranda)
6. Bad Blood (Beth -- I found a book I want to read that fits here)
7. Blood Rites (Jennifer)

Again, if I didn't find what I needed on the spreadsheet I went to goodreads to-read shelves, so at one point you guys thought about reading those books, but of course they may no longer be available. I'll go back to finishing my dead author book now :-)

PS. Sallie, if you start off Leg 2 with Never Lie to a Lady (or any book ending with Lady) AND all my presumptuous suggestions work, I think we've got everyone on a book in heat one.

P.P.S. Sheila, if you have a book ending in Summer, you could take my place in Leg 1. Then we'd each have 2 books to read instead of me having 3. We have to finish Heat 1 before starting the rest. If you can't, I can do it -- all three look like fairly easy books so I should be able to get through them this weekend. I have to read the Summer book by next Thursday anyway.

35559 I just brought home my library haul today, which consists of books from the Cybils finalist shortlist (I try to read them each year) and my next batch of Reading-My-Library books (I'm on quest to read a book from each shelf).

I'll add them to my list on the sheet since it would be handy for them to count for this. As I picked books for my quest I tried to pick titles that would work, or had something else for the Olympics like a Bare Arm on the cover.

35559 OK, I see from possibilities from Ashley and Miranda's to-read shelves. We need to get something from everyone, and I'm hoping the books ending with Wings or starting with Bad won't be too hard to find:

Wings of the Wicked (Ashley)
Wicked Ugly Bad (Miranda)

There is a folder for the overall rules, and then folders for each event.

35559 And if anyone has a Fog, keep chiming in. We should see which books we can get out to a seven chain. Since we can't start anything until all three chains are done (3, 5, and 7) we can keep working on them until at least one is length 7 and so on.

And if we have extras, we are in good shape for Heat 2, where we have to do it all over again.

35559 For the sake of clarity, I suggest we repeat the entire Leg when suggesting a new book. If you are on mobile, maybe say (mobile) and then someone else can do that, so we don't have to keep paging back?

Possible heat 1 Leg:
1. Beth: The Sword of Summer
2. Nancy : Summer House
3. Moonlight Reader: House of Sand and Fog

No books may be STARTED for any other Olympic Event until Heat 1 of Title Relay is COMPLETED and is entered into the spreadsheet!

35559 I just noticed this:

All books for Olympic Games must be STARTED after July 2nd at 11am London time

So for 12 hours we can't read ANYTHING. The horror!

35559 Carmen, what's the rule on subtitles? Does the stuff after the semicolon count?

I think I'll stop listing nonfiction because those are the ones with the confusing titles.

35559 How about if three people who think they will be busy next week pick starting books? Then they can get reading on them early, and the rest of us can try to build chains from them.

I'm expecting another quiet week, so I can plan on time to find and read whenever.

35559 What about subtitles? When I browsed my shelves I saw Talk to the Hand on the spine of a book, but when I looked it up on goodreads it's named Talk to the Hand: The Utter Bloody Rudeness of the World Today, or Six Good Reasons to Stay Home and Bolt the Door.

So does it end with Hand or Door?

PS. Miranda, this round ends at 11PM London Time on Friday. So I guess that's when the next round starts.

35559 Ashley wrote: "In the rules it says we can't ignore a/an/the. It isn't necessarily a problem though because if we use that for the first link it doesn't matter."

Right. If a book ends in a good word, I'll list it, even if it starts with A/The. After all, each leg starts somewhere, right?

I also like books that end with a preposition.
