35559 Sheila, yes, totally a forest book. Also, I think all of the books to the right of the SS are used, except maybe for your Kitchen House. I made all the crossed-out ones purple and the un-crossed one blue, so it should be easier to see now.

I just made my teenaged boys listen to the last two chapters of my cowboy romance book Once a Rancher as I drove them back from the city so that is finished as well (a mountain book).

35559 In case Carmen doesn't reply, this is from the description of her book: "The next morning everything comes crashing down. The insanely hot guy from last night, the one that saw her half naked, is teaching at the front of the class room."

So a teacher!

I finished my #3 for the weapon. Ang, should I find a number four or are you looking forward to Magicians of Capriona? I'm guessing these are rereads but the order doesn't matter for most of the Crestomanci books.

Where should I read next? I thought we were dropping the repeat Bones card, so I moved my Dragon Bones to Card 38 (the one with 12 XP). I have to go drive on errands, so I'll try to finish my audio with mountains in the background and then come back to see if I should work on Card 38 or help out with the Weapon book -- I'm sure I can find a #4 (or a 7, but I think Carmen said she was almost done) . I mean, I own Magicians of Capriona.

Oh, and I just realized I've completely forgotten about TAPIRS READ books and have just been updating on the spreadsheet. Should I go back and catch up in that discussion?

35559 It will also be nice to get our weapon level up one more (we're almost done) because it makes the math much nicer if we attack for 20 rather than 19. I hate subtracting by 19!

35559 So the new plan is to discard everything that doesn't have a good potion payoff? Especially if we've done that card before, so that it doesn't trigger our Tapir Determination? I like that idea.

Good job, Captains! And we should level up with the next card completed (4XP to go) and then take down another boss!

35559 Go Sheila! You did the whole card.

Ang, no rush. And both books have idioms there there's spots waiting for them on the card sheet as well.

35559 OK, first thoughts: let's concentrate on getting to XP Level 7 (we need 28 more XP points), and then we can take Boss 8. Then heal up and maybe do Boss 1, and then a card which will level us to 8.

Boss 9 is also doable, and would take us directly from Level 8 to Level 9. Then we see how our weapon level is.

Wow, this is getting exciting!

35559 I finished Memory Man, and I noticed that a book club book has 2 ds in it, so I'll read Home Improvement: Undead Edition tomorrow.

I'm also reading A Gentleman's Position, which obviously has an idiom in it (the title is a pun!) but it is also the third in a series, and I know we'll be looking back at Weapon Level 10 soon. Ang, you've got Witch Week in there and I can't imagine that taking long, but if you are getting tired of DWJ (HA! unlikely, I say) I could put my book there.

35559 I don't mind skipping the 20 gold card. It doesn't feel like giving up because we already did it once.

35559 Oooh, I dislike this card because it's a ton of books for NO XP. And since we haven't seen many monsters, the gold isn't even that useful.

Oh well, it will be more points at the end. Somebody should look at the rules to see if it is actually better to buy cheap potions. If potions cost 2 gold and give 5 points, it's better to have the potion than the gold (2 gold = 4 points):

(from the rules):

Points
◈ 30 Points per Weapon Level
◈ 45 Points per Hero Level
◈ 2 Point per Gold Remaining
◈ 5 Points per Potion Remaining
◈ 30 Points per Tournament Knockout

Jack and Jill's Store

◈ Minor Heal Potion - 2 Gold
◈ Heal Potion - 3 Gold
◈ Cure Poison - 2 Gold
◈ Damage Potion - 2 Gold
◈ Poison Potion - 5 Gold

35559 Am I a bad person because I'm hoping for tons of rain tonight so I can sit and read instead of hopping about handing out candy?

35559 Card 28 is ready to go.

I'm off to read Memory Man now.

35559 Yay, I've been trying to wedge into a spot forever! (Well, for a week, but at the rate we've been reading it seems like forever...)

35559 Color question -- the background of this book Memory Man (Amos Decker, #1) by David Baldacci looks gold to me -- it's shiny and metallic. Tineye calls it brown, though, which doesn't seem accurate in person.

Can I use it for the gold cover spot on card 32? I haven't been reading it quickly because it doesn't fit anywhere (I think I have it down for Series #1 for weapon 15 or something) but if I worked at it I could finish today or tomorrow morning.

35559 Have I mentioned lately how awesome Team Tapirs is? You guys just explained a part of how Goodreads work that I had never understood (when series get their decimal numbers).

I love when I learn something that I never knew was there to be learned. It's like extra-shiny information.

I think they were pulled from various books of short stories, so I guess I'm out of luck.

35559 Humph. I've got a book of short stories by Agatha Christie, and I thought for sure some would show up as decimals of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, but those lazy people at goodreads have not categoried them.

I blame humanity.

35559 I am confused by when we can use volumes of multiple books.

For example, I have paperback The Legend of Eli Monpress, which is over 1000 pages. It has the first three Eli Monpress books. Can I use that for a giant book? (Actually, I can't, because I got the ebook of the first book and read that earlier, but the point is the same.)

Can I read just part of it -- could I read the 2nd book from that one? Or would i have to check the same words out of the library on their own? Are the rules different for ebooks and for paper books?

If someone understands this and can explain it, that would be great, but don't spend any time looking it up because I'm not currently testing any of these limits. I just realized I didn't understand the rules.

35559 Attack!
Tapirs: 45 hit points
Pain Giant: 50 hit points

Tapirs hit for 19!
Pain Giant at 31
Pain Giant hits for 15
Tapirs at 30
Tapir hits for 19!
Pain Giant at 12
Pain Giant hits for 15
Tapirs at 15
Tapirs hit for 19!
Pain Giant Dies

Leaving us at 15, but we can just stay there until we get another monster because at the rate we've been going we might level up first.

Does my math look good?
