They came on my roughest day of my knee replacement, but just to see their sweet smiles and get their little hugs made my pain so much more tolerable! Down time=reading time!!!

       DQs: Day 1 Chapter 1-8
DQs: Day 1 Chapter 1-81. Chapter 1 starts with a news clipping and ends with a blog post and chat. What do you think of this nontraditional style? Were you surprised that it didn't continue through the next 7 chapters?
. This is a reread for me and I haven't read it since February. I will answer the questions as they hit me the second time through, while not giving anything away from what I know from my first reading.
I liked the opening and felt it gave a modern spin. It would not have fit for the following chapters.
2. Monique Grant is a little known writer. Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography for a reason. Any thoughts to why? Is is just her style? Age? Or do you think it is ore personal?
It's a mystery at this point. Maybe she wants to give her a big break? Maybe she wants a young person to write it to make it more relatable? My first time reading, I did think there might be a hidden reason that would reveal itself later in the story..
3. Evelyn's quote "The world doesn't give you things, you take things" really struck me. How does this phrase resonate with you?
That phrase sums it up fairly well for Evelyn. Things were not given to her...she had to make things happen. I think the phrase can be seen as a positive or negative. Either it's a "go-getter attitude" or negatively as "take everything you can get regardless of who you hurt along the way".
4. Evelyn learned early on about how to use her looks and sex to get what she wanted. She seems to see it as taking what she wanted and doesn't regret her life decisions. Especially in the back drop of the Me too movement, how do you feel about Evelyn and her decisions so far?
It was a bit hard reading the way she used her looks and body to get what she wanted, but I think for Evelyn she just saw it as using her natural talents. It fit with her personality of getting what she wanted doing whatever was necessary.
5. Do you like the back and forth between Monique/now and Evelyn's back story?
Many books have that type of structure. Sometimes it's effective and other times it's distracting and makes the story disjointed. I thought the author did a good job making it work well.
Looks like Karen, Cilla and I are all reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I see it's the BOM, but on the tracking sheet I don't see it entered for December. I will be answering questions to get the extra points. Karen or Cilla, are you going to be answering questions also? It's a reread for me. I read it Feb 20, 202l, so it fits the rule for reread since it's been more than 6 months. I really enjoyed it the first time through!

I seem to make it about halfway each time and then put it down for another 6 months or so, to the point where I need to reread the first half again. Someday I'll make it! I know it's such a classic, but it just hasn't grabbed me.

Great job, teamies, on getting your books read! We did so much better in Round 4. Round 3 was a bit of a nightmare for me!
