And those words! Almost as scary as the bike trail! This last round is going to test our limits. It will be fun to see what Wednesday will bring!

Just a reminder to add Eleanor & Park to your Wheel shelf. Thanks!"
Hi Nanci! I went to add it but it was already on my wheel shelf. Is it not showing up for y..."
Well it's another GR oddity. When I put it in the search bar for your shelf (which is what I usually do), it doesn't show up, but I just now looked on your shelf and sure enough there it is! You're all set and from now on, I'll check both ways!

If you missed a week, everyone would be freaking out about Round 5."
Sonia, I must still have "pain med brain"! I didn't mean to send off a riot! Got this challenge mixed up with my deadline for another challenge!

I am currently swept up into The Things We Cannot Say. If you love HF and can handle reading about the Holocaust I strongly recommend it.
Good news for me...I'm off the walker and onto a cane for my knee replacement! The PT says I'm coming right along. Lots of hard work, but baby step by baby step, it seems to be working.
Anyone in the USA have plans for Thanksgiving? Our daughter from Denver, CO is flying in today with her new husband. Our whole family will be together, which is a rarity. I am super pumped!!

Is there a list of books that you know of that fits banned books task? I have searched, but can't find anything. I'm willing to read one if I can find it at my library or somewhere.

I read another one also (finished today, on the 21st, but it doesn't fit for round 4. Unless...we're not allowed to use setting on a biography are we? Almost the entire book took place on the Appalachian Trail, so it could work for A in HARVEST, if setting is allowed.

Also, I just went through the tracking sheet and Captain checked the books that still needed to be checked. I didn't do yours or Sonia's as I figured you'd do those yourselves.
I didn't do anything about Saar's request in message 434 because I couldn't see that book.

10. We are about half way through the book now and I've been looking at the cover and trying to see how it fits with the story. The cover feels dark to me and so far I don't really feel that in the story. Do you feel like the cover fits the story?
I kept looking at the cover also, to see how it related to the book. I couldn't find a clear theme, but that's how I feel about this book also, so I guess you could say it fits. I wouldn't have been drawn to read it based on the cover, but based on the words I was drawn to it.
11. So the old fashioned booksellers in charge might feel the need to remove Susan if they find out her father is one of the Ancients. It seems like Merrihew and Thurston are not greatly respected in the Booksellers realm. How do you feel about them? Do you think they might be involved in what is happening to Susan?
Disclaimer again that I finished the book, but my thoughts at the time of reading was that I was questioning in my mind that maybe Merrihew was somehow involved.
12. We keep getting all these references to books, musical groups, and other pop culture from the 80's. Take for example this quote: "The ground floor facing the street was all floor-to-ceiling high windows, with a wonderful display of Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose complete with a cardboard castle to the left of the central revolving door, and a selection of new release thrillers an mysteries built up in a series of pyramids in the window to the right, including John Le Carre's The Little Drummer Girl, Jeffery Archer's First Among Equals, and Ken Follett's On Wings of Eagles." That sentence is long and the following one is not much shorter. How do you feel about all of these references?
I found the references to be rather entertaining. I did think they were just thrown in without much purpose, but my mind was overwhelmed sometimes by this book, so they gave me a bit of a break.
13. In the last section Vivian gives Susan a steel knife and salt and tells her how to bind something to herself. Do you think she will have to bind something? Any idea who or what she will bind?
. I assumed she would have to bind something, or else why would Vivian teach her how to do it?

6. Merlin and Susan get pulled into the May Fair. "The happiness is unsettling, all the smiling and laughing". Was there a part of the fair that stuck out to you? And would YOU have noticed the colorless rose?
I thought the author did a really good job with his description of the May Fair. It was so bizarre! The goblins gave me the creeps too! I could picture them as children and felt rather sorry for them while at the same time being grossed out by how they looked and acted. I would have been far too freaked out to notice the rose. Often I'm the type of person who sees the individual tree, but misses the forest, but in this case I was overwhelmed just reading about it, let alone if I was actually experiencing it in person.
7. Susan seems to have some sort of powers of command, which we see with the wolf at the end of the fair, and hear more about at the end of Chapter 8. What are your guesses about her heritage? Do you have any new guesses about her father?
I found it interesting how Susan begins to realize she has some special powers. The talents she had before meeting Merlin she wasn't so sure about, but now she's beginning to see they were more than she thought. I couldn't say about her heritage, but I'm still holding on to my feeling that her Dad was part of the Other World as well as the normal world.
8. My favorite part of these chapters was reading about the New Bookstore and its contents. If you could spend time in there, what would you want to check out?
I would be checking out the historical fiction, as that's my favorite genre. I also would check out any local authors
9. The grandmothers were interesting. Any thoughts about them? If I were one of the grandmothers, I'd totally be hanging out with my mastiff. What would you have keeping you company?
I agree. I like the grandmothers also. I would have both our family dogs with me...our yellow lab, KC, and our golden retriever, Chelsea. They have both gone over the rainbow and we still miss them.
