I also enjoyed The Littles, read them as a child also!

Oh how I wish that was true!!! Apparently, my house is not old enough. Plus, with 5 kids running around it is hardly quiet and routine!

24794 I must say that I had to start a modern version of things that go missing-safety pins(that does not seem to change), cell phone charger cords(I can never seem to find mine), tops to my ball point pens, batteries(I swear I but these all the time and can't find them when I need them), receipts(never need them when I have to return something), buttons, toilet paper, push pins.

24794 I forgot about The Crucible. Must say, don't have fond memories of that one either.

24794 Finished this last night and really enjoyed it!
gives me hope for reading another Dickens story in my lifetime!

24794 I just watched the musical version with Kelsey Grammer and must say that I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. Every time I hear Grammer speak though I think of Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons!

24794 I picked up my copy from the library and when my 9 year old son saw it, he said that he had read that in 2nd grade with his teacher. He was very excited to explain to me who all the people were. Now I'm very interested to read this one!

24794 Being the mom of a little boy with spina bifida, tiny Tim has really touched me. Reading about his crutch and metal braces is very poignant. Watching my son walk around in lightweight plastic braces, makes me once again feel very fortunate to have my children during the 21st century. It is hard to feel helpless when your children are suffering, the Cratchits are such a wonderful and caring family to embrace and enjoy their son.

I must say that Two Cites does get better, but it took around 300 pages for me to finally figure out who the people are and what was going on. It does get better!

I have been tempted to try it again thinking, like you did, that it HAD to get better. I just don't seem to have to "gumption" to give it a try. Maybe, if it gets nominated as a group read, since that is the concept of the group! I feel better knowing that there is someone else that feels the same way about that book!

24794 I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy this book is to read. I was nervous to try Dickens again after A Tale of Two Cities, but this story is a breeze. The descriptions are wonderful, I can just imagine reading this by candlelight, as your house is creaking around you, quite spooky!

No, I have just tried that one book. I was tempted to just watch the movie, it does have Sean Connery in it so even if it is terrible the scenery would be good! Good luck with it! Let me know how it goes!
