24794 We were going to have one of Verne's books for the February children's read. There is a poll at the bottom of the page that has three selections, if you are interested please vote on it! Thanks!

I love your board! That took some time and wonderful creativity! It is fun to see automobiles and airplanes from that time period.
On a side note, I enjoy Pinterest, but I had to tone it down since it became a huge time sucker!

Thanks for that Tatum! Some of the links are hard to figure out!

We were hoping to send out the questions to individual participants so we can add you to the list.

Not sure about that one! We will have to see how this one goes! If it is well received, then maybe it will be a yearly thing!

24794 We will have a Jules Verne book for March, so that will cover that one!

24794 The authors challenge has finally been worked out and I'm really excited about this one! There is a list of 8 authors(4 male, 4 female), these will be done in a seasonal format, so 2 authors for a 3 month span. We will have one of the books by each author as a group read during that time period and then anyone participating will need to read one more literary work by that author. The work can be anything, a poem, a play, a short story, not just a novel, although that is fine also. Now for the list:
Winter Authors:Jan-March
L.M. Montgomery (Author)
Jules Verne
Spring Authors:April-June
A.A. Milne
Edith Wharton
Summer Authors:July-September
George Eliot
Emile Zola
Fall Authors:October-December
H.G. Wells
E. Nesbit

24794 I would have to agree with you Michele. I could see where the author was trying to go with the story, but I just didn't care. The idea that our actions have consequences for everyone around us is very true, but my goodness it took awhile for that to come out. The middle chapters were very tedious and hard to read.
All that being said, I picked up The Selfish Giant and I enjoyed it and my kids did also.

24794 Hello and welcome Timothy! I'm glad that you joined the group and now that you have brought it up it, it does seem that Goodreads is more female dominated. Am I wrong or do most groups have more females than men? Facebook seems to be a better mix, of course, the ones that talk the most are female!Ha! Don't forget to check out our Russian buddy read for January, it just started on the 14th.

I could not agree more! I'm about 55% done and I have yet to find any characters that I enjoy. I find it interesting how Dorian starts to become suspicious of his valet. Makes me wonder if this paranoia will develop further.

24794 We are getting closer to the final test days!! We were thinking that we would have the test questions given on January 27th, then you would have until the 30th to email us with your answers. We were wondering who exactly is going to participate in this battle? If you could just let us know in this thread, then we would have an idea how many are participating. Thank you again for participating, this is just fun! I hope that you have read some wonderful new books and had a great time as well!
