I don't want this to get to school like, but I thought the questtions were better than my questions. Answer these or not, I just was wondering some of your ideas! No hurry either!!!

Last one for now
Consider how sailors such as Wentworth and Admiral Croft have made their fortunes-by capturing enemy ships and enjoying the spoils. With this new-found wealth, they rejoin English society in higher social standings. What is Austen's opinion of this?

Look at how Anne's feelings and perseptions are shown-never through her direct words or thoughts but through an approximate report of these through a distant narrator. What does Austen accomplish by doing this?

Persuasion is the aim of rhetoric, yet in this book it often hinders and harms feelings. What is Austen commenting on? Consider what happens when Lady Russell or Mrs.Clay persuade others as opposed to what happens when Anne persuades others.

Here are some questions to think about.
Lady Russell persuades Anne to break off her engagement to avoid "youth-killing dependence". Does she ultimately succeed in sheltering Anne from this?

Yes, I finished it this morning and had some study questions in the back of the book. So that should be fun to answer those questions.

I have now become addicted to Jane Austen. Once I got used to the writing style, I just love her book. She is sarcastic and funny. I love how she has such great observances about her time period. I really like Anne and feel sorry for her having a self-absorbed, boorish family. Like this book.

We read the JA book club for our Hugo bc and I must say that it was not one of my most enjoyable reads. I saw P&P and just loved Mr. Darcy. Very tall, dark, handsome and broody. Oh Haha, maybe he is a vampire too!!!!! LOL

this is not school, get to it when u can!

OK, I have only read 45 pages, but what does everyone think? Do you see any foreshadowing at all? Any characters that u like? Any ones that u hate already? Better or worse than other Jane Austin books?

I didn't realize she wrote so many novels!

You are such a book snob!!!!LOL!!! I hope that you enjoy it. I have read about 50 pages and I enjoy how she can say something mean and snarky but get away with it since it is so proper!! Much better than Gulliver!

Ok, I picked up my copy yesterday. Let the reading commence. I hope that this is better than GT!

It was a unanimous vote that we start this as our new book. I hope that it goes better than Gulliver's travels!

What did you think of the ending? Did you have any pity for Madame Defarge?

For shame! Reading the end of the book, or a spoiler for that matter! Did it end like you thought?

Ok, now we are talking! It is finally getting interesting! I am on page 322 and with the French Revolution in full swing, now some heads are going to roll!!LOL Actually, you could see what was coming about 20 pages ago and I just wanted to yell "you idiot, don't do it, but it happened anyway." Starting not to like the knitting lady! Enjoy!

No need to worry, Kerri and I are having issues figuring out who all these characters are. Obviously, we are not burning through the book either!

I still enjoy it, but chpts 4,5, were confusing. Who are all these new people and why do I care about a odd job man? Why do I care about two lawyers that stay up all night drinking? I'm in the middle of chp 6, so I will hope that these questions get cleared up!

Does anyone else find that maybe we need to read the young adult version? Or do you read it like me and skip large paragraghs? Rather wordy don't you think?
