I agree, especially if you are a woman, and a woman without a man sounding name, ie-Bobbie.
Now that I think about it, do you think that there is something with that? I mean, Bobbie can be mistaken more for a man, than a woman's name. Plus, it was always mentioning her big hands. Just something I started to think about.

What does everyone think of Joe Christmas? Psycopath or bad childhood?

I love thrwartfacedcurled, I hope that I can use that in a sentence someday!

I hate to say it since it is heresy, but, I did not like The Catcher in the Rye, either. This is one book that maybe, due to my age in high school, I should read again. That and To Kill a Mockingbird.

I feel like I get into a trance when I read this book. Soon I have read 20 pages and it goes by so fast.
I like how Faulkner uses these crazy words, hookwormridden, stumppocked, etc. I pretty sure that I have never found some of them in books before.

I got a little scared after reading some of the forward to find that Collins and Dickens were good friends. I thought"Oh no" and at 600+ pages, I figured I would never finish this book!
Boy, I was wrong. It is funny and easy to read. The part where Walter muses about how his mother readily accepts his foreign friend and gets so excited by small things like a child, but he wonders if due to his education that he is too well brought up. Made me laugh! My parents just don't understand!!LOL
Can't wait to read this!

I think that it might be a tad to early for that broad sweeping statement. I'm not done yet. I'm cautiously optimistic!

Actually, I am pleasantly surprised. I'm enjoying this book! Granted, I'm only on page 77, but that was in one day, I had to force myself to put it down. The long paragraphs and sentences, has a literary name, but don't remember, rather reminds me of a person that never takes a breath when they are speaking. I'm shocked and happy that I'm enjoying this, so far.
It is rather confusing how the narrative can switch back and forth in one paragraph. That does take some getting used too.

Faulkner is starting to scare me!! I'm afraid I will miss much of this book, as it will be over my head!

I think it does have alot to do with the teacher. I had a great teacher during the Shakespeare phase and I also went to see many of the stories as plays. Which, of course, they are. They make much more sense when they are experienced that way.

Hello Bani M! I happened to be on when you joined! I hope you like our club!

This took some thought, but I came up with a few books. The ones I liked were:
Hamlet,
Romeo and Juliet,
Gone With the Wind,
The Red Badge of Courage.
The books that I like the least:
To Kill a Mockingbird,
The Great Gatsby,
The Old Man and the Sea.
I'm willing to try Mockingbird again, but I shudder everytime I think of Hemingway.

Welcome Mary! Nice to meet you!

HaHa, I userp your authority!

I finally got mine today. I didn't realize that the cover picture was of trees and a road with people on it. It looks like an orange blob on the bookshelf! LOL
