What did you think of the title? Does it realte to the story? What about the time of year?

Our book for December-January is
. Having never read the book, I am excited to move it into my currently reading pile. Due to its ideas about government and society, I was curious, as a starting point, what people have heard or what their impressions are about this book? Did anyone read this in high school?

Welcome George! Hope that you enjoy our little group.

That sounds much more useful than spoons or shotgasses.

Katherine, you won 5!!!! OOOOh, now I'm just jealous!
Thanks for the book Amy!LOL

I have become addicted to the book giveaways! I have won
Persona Non Grata and it has made me crazy to win another one. Has anyone else won a book off of the giveaways?

Speed reader alert!HAHA! This book is making me laugh! I love the description of Mrs. Vesey. "Some of us rush through life; and some of us saunter through life. Mrs Vesey sat through life" Just love that!!!LOL
I also like his description of Mr. Fairlie. My new excuse-"My nerves". Think it will work!!!LOL

I'm really going to work on this. Maybe start my New Year resolution now...going to use bookmark from now on! LOL

I read Pride and Prejudice not to long ago, and just loved it! We also just finished reading Persuasion, as last month's read! I have become a Austen fan!

Welcome to you Kaila,
We are pretty low key around here, just trying to enjoy those classics!

I'm only on page 31, so don't feel too pressured. It does have about 600 pages. Sharon cruised thru hers! Speed reader award for the month!!LOL

Welcome Katherine! I hope that I didn't "twist" your arm too much! LOL

I didn't like Heart of Darkness either. *Ugh, Shudder*

I finished the book this morning and I liked it. I thought the book could have ended about 100 pages before it did, but I enjoyed it.
My attitude toward Christmas keeps changing for the entire book. Lena is someone that I can't figure out. Burch drives me nuts and Hightower was boring and only helpful to keep the story going back and forth between Christmas and Lena.
Interesting book.

Welcome Elizabeth! Thanks for joining! Hope that you enjoy our group!

Ok, I will admit it, I have a very bad habit of not using a bookmark when I read books. I usually, lay them on the couch with the pages facing the couch*gasp*. Yes, I know that it breaks the spine and ruins the book, but I'm lazy. Trying to change my ways, when I noticed 4 books from my kids scattered around the couch, all placed in the spine breaking position. Need more bookmarks!LOL Am I alone on this?

Joe always feels like an outsider. He is just a loner, but not a hermit. He does need some connection with people, albeit violent ones.
I think that the toothpaste scene started his odd relaitionship with women.

Welcome Pam! We are excited that you joined our little group!

Joe is a scary, tragic person. He also uses his "race" as a weapon. But, his "race" issues only work in the South. His attitudes about women really have me confused. He is like the saying "Can't live with them, can't shoot em". Well, except he can, so that doesn't work either.

Cannery Row? Ha, never even heard of that one. I probably read it-HAHAHA
