That is correct. If a couple people show an interest in reading a book and want to have a discussion it can go here. Sometimes it is fun to read a book with someone else and get their take on it. Just another opportunity to discuss and read!

24794 I just want to remind everyone to be respectful of everyone's choices in the group. We all have different opinions and sometimes books have different appeals to others. I listed every book that was nominated, so please be considerate! Thanks!

24794 I have a feeling that any of his books will be an enjoyable read. He has such a wonderful way of telling a story. Are you two up for reading another one next year sometime?

24794 This is the November childrens read, and it is also part of the book challenge. Happy reading!

24794 No,this is not the John Jakes book that was made into a miniseries with the handsome Patrick Swayze, but the earlier classic by Elizabeth Gaskill. It is the November group read and it is also in the list of books for the book challenge. Happy reading everyone!

24794 I was wondering when you all wanted the buddy read to start? I have the poll going until Dec. 31st if that is too long, please let me know and it can be shortened.

24794 Hello and welcome to the group Jen and Desiree! I'm glad that you joined and I hope that you enjoy the group!
Desiree, it does make a difference in abridged/nonabridged versions in classics. In some ways it is like edited for TV movies, the story just seems to lack something.
Jim, that is so true.
Jen, I hope you don't cringe at all my punctuation and spelling mistakes. I just had it pointed out to me that I spelled usurper wrong, so maybe, I need to spell check everything!

24794 Magda wrote: "what sort of books do you like reading for book clubs?"

I'm game reading anything for book clubs. This one is centered around the classics, but I have a IRL club that reads anything that the hostess wants to read for that month. I have read some wonderful books that I never would have picked up due to that club! Well, that also includes this one too.

24794 Dawn wrote: "Got a question - I organize a book club and was curious about your "buddy reads." Is this a book you've selected that pairs well with the book of the month? Thanks! Dawn"

Most of the buddy reads just start between two people who want to read the same book and it is different than the monthly group read. There is no rhyme or reason to them. The Pere Goriot started when I saw the Music Man and wondered if anyone had read Balzac. Rather random!

I didn't finish it. I got about halfway through and decided to read other things, still planning on finishing it though. The story was interesting, but all the extras was overwhelming.

24794 Welcome Amelia and Katelyn to the group! I would have to agree with Jim, that rereading classics from high school can put a different perspective on them, but then again, I'm not in a hurry in reread Inherit the Wind. *shudder*
