24794 Nice research! I will try to find Scenes at my library. It would be nice to see what happens to all those people. Maybe, we could do another buddy read of that one some other time?

I had no idea that was a book first, of course, it wasn't until the latest version of True Grit came out that I realized that was a book first either.

24794 Wouldn't that be awkward?

24794 I finished this last night and thought it was fun. It was very descriptive even though my copy was only 80 pages. I laughed at the image of Crane riding the plow horse, and all the food made my stomach rumble.
My copy had an afterward by someone whose name excapes me right now and it was talking about what things scares people in general. Is is the slasher movie or the dark shape on your chair when you jerk awake in the middle of the night? Have to pick the chair and I could sympathize with Crane for letting his imagination run away with him.

That sounds like some fun reads!

24794 I was wondering if some of these characters showed up somewhere else. I will have to put those on my TR pile. It would be interesting to see where they go from here. Thanks for the info!

Slogged and hacking are two adjectives that I do not want to see about a book. Might have to skip that one!

24794 I agree about Vautrin "strange fondness" for Rastignac could have been motivated by a attraction to the young student. R. seemed to vex V. many, many times.

24794 My other favorite part was when the people were discussing Vautrin's red hair and they said that he is either all good or all bad. Being a natural redhead, I thought that was funny!

I do find that your perspective changes from a reading a book as a child and as an adult. It is amazing to me some of the adventures that occur in the Laura Ingalls's books that would have turned my red hair grey, if my kids had done them!

24794 There has been some interest in doing a buddy read for a Russian novel. Please feel free to nominate so books then we can either take a poll or just decide which one to read! We can also decide the time length for the book! Can't wait!
