Liz, it was good, but kinda abrupt ending. Some other stuff I would've liked to see happen. I turned the page and it was over....

222868 I finished The Brightest Embers The Brightest Embers (Broken Destiny, #3) by Jeaniene Frost .

This series ended up being pretty good. It took me awhile to warm up to the first book, but I definitely enjoyed all 3 of them. The last book ended well, but I thought a bit too abruptly. It could've used an epilogue or something. But overall a good series. I'd say series as a whole 3.5*.

222868 Liz, if you want them to be able to do school work too then see if what they are doing for school is compatible for MAC. My work offered MACs for a while and eventually got rid of them and only offered lenovo laptops, because the MACs would not function with a lot of our stuff.

I got my girls lenovo laptops about 3 years ago on a black friday sale online. They are still functioning fine (knock on wood). One has Sims 4 on it, plus minecraft.

I think Lenovo sale might still be going on now because I keep getting emails from them. Of course you can also try Dell.

Anyway, the thing about laptops/PCs is the memory/RAM - not enough and that is what makes them sluggish - you need like 6 to 8GB. Most cheap machines have 4gb, which is terrible. Also, the chip makes a big difference. Chips like AMD are crap. Try for Intel i5 or higher. Hard drive is important for space but not that big of a deal because you can always buy an external hard drive and just plug it in if you need more space. Ram & Chip are more important.

This one is on Lenovo site for $499 ($200 off) - IdeaPad 320s
Processor: 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-7200U Processor (2.50GHz 3MB)
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64
Hard Drive: 1TB 5400 RPM
Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 620
Warranty: One year
Memory: 8.0GB DDR4 2133MHz
Optical Drive: No Optical Disc Drive

But don't know if its good for gaming, or what types of games he needs. My nephew is very into gaming and saved his money and spent like $2k on his gaming pc.

I am reading the Broken Destiny series. I totally agree with you. It's not super amazing or anything but definitely keeping my interest. I also love Brutus the gargoyle. So far has 3 - 3.5* for me too. Just started the 3rd book - The Brightest Embers The Brightest Embers (Broken Destiny, #3) by Jeaniene Frost

222868 I just bought my mom a kindle fire for 29.99 for Christmas. (I just had a duh moment and thought I was on amazon and tried to add the product link....) Anyway she drops hints she wants a smart phone and that her PC doesn't work good. So I figured this would be an easy/cheap way to get her online and she can do facebook, pinterest and even watch TV on it.

FYI - Friend in another groups said there a Groupon for 2 months of KU Free if you search for it. Also that Amazon was running 40% off KU...

222868 oh and I finished Wait for It Wait for It by Mariana Zapata and it was pretty good. I gave 4* but maybe more like 3.5*. It has a nice slow build romance, but maybe a little too slow. But there was a nice HEA at the end.

222868 I started The Beautiful Ashes The Beautiful Ashes (Broken Destiny, #1) by Jeaniene Frost . Its ok so far. Not really wowing me but definitely has my interest, but its early going. This is not really YA like I thought - the h is 20 I think. I waited to try this series because there were book delays and now the last one is coming out next week I believe...

Yes Karen I saw the promotion on the romance newsletter for certain books. They've done this a few times now and I never get anything because none of the books interested me. I does feel like a bit of a fake promotion....

I am waiting on Strange the Dreamer because from other reviews it sounds like a cliff hanger ending. I also enjoyed Daughter of Smoke and Bone.

If you want me to give you some spoilers let me know. It got really, really dark and I was not expecting it. And quite honestly I thought it brought nothing to the book. The events just did not have to happen as they did. Until that last third it would've been a 5* read easily.

222868 Finished Soulbound Soulbound (Dark Arts, #3) by Bec McMaster and it was a good end to the trilogy - overall 4* for the 3 books. There will be a spinoff set in teh same world with a character from these books.

Something I found funny - when I was reading Bec McMasters steampunk series I kept getting it confused with Kristen Callihan's steampunk series because I was reading the books from both series as they came out and I'd be like "oh wait this is the OTHER steampunk series" Anyway, when I went to put the link for Soulbound in this comment, Kristen Callihan's book called Soulbound came up. Just thought that was funny.

Anyway, I needed a PNR break so I just started Wait for It by Mariana Zapata Wait for It which was a nominee in GR Choice Awards. I don't love contemporary but I enjoy one every now and then and loved this author's other book The Wall of Winnipeg and Me.

Has anyone here read the Last Hour of Gann?"

Vicki - I had very mixed feelings about The Last Hour of Gann. It was masterfully written, but went psycho in the last half. I ended up giving it 2*. Here's my review if you are interested - there are no spoilers....

222868 I'm about halfway through Soulbound Soulbound (Dark Arts, #3) by Bec McMaster . This series can be pretty dark at times, but its well written. I like all the characters, even the secondary ones. Looking forward to seeing how it all ends....

Mindy, Dark Arts is an entirely different series. It has sorcerers/magic users. Not steampunk, but it is set in London and is historical.

222868 I'm reading PNR!

I'm about halfway through Hexbound Hexbound (Dark Arts, #2) by Bec McMaster which is book 2 in this series. I wish I had read it when it first came out because I don't remember a whole lot from book 1. But its still pretty good! And I believe the 3rd book is already out so I can go right into that after. I've always liked Bec McMasters writing.

222868 Waverly, I loved The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke, #1) by Tessa Dare .

For Lisa Kleypas you might want to try her wallflower series - those were great and better than the Ravenals series in my opinion. Most people like Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3) by Lisa Kleypas best but you should probably read the ones before to get back story on the h and H. And these are probably all online at most libraries if you don't want to buy them.

222868 I just could not get into Rhapsodic. It was a DNF for me. The narration/writing style didn't work for me. And I thought the world building was lacking. I did like the H though. He was the reason I tried to stick with it.

Maybe I will try again some other time when all the books are out....
