22225 I finished last year with having read 284 books so I'm going to see if I can finish with an even 300 this year.

Daniel, I couldn't have said it better. You took the words right out of my mouth, that is exactly how I feel too.

April, I also work for the library. I have one advantage over the regular patron that I hope you also can make use of, I am often able to place a hold on a book as soon as I even know it is coming out, before it has even been published, which means I usually get it as soon as it hits the shelf, sometimes even before. See if you can do this too, that way you won't have to suffer the wait for a new book and hopefully won't feel the need to go out and buy it yourself. But if you do, one way you can and try and cut your spending is set a budget for yourself AND STICK TO IT! Sometimes just being able to make any purchase will quench your thirst and the feeling of need to go out and buy. It's okay then to go out and buy so long as you don't go overboard. But don't go out and buy a book if you are not going to keep it, that is basically just wasting your free access to the library and wasting your money. Any books you do currently have that you really do not want to keep, look into seeing if there are any used bookstores that might buy them from you, like Half Price Books, that might help your money matters a little too. Best of luck.

22225 Shannon, if I wasn't so afraid of going way overboard with bidding, I might have challenged you on eBay for those Nicole Peelers. :-)

22225 Welcome to the group Jen. I think I know where you are coming from. I've only read about 2/3 of my fiction because the other third of my library is made up of fiction books I bought because I just wanted to have them, things like classics or complete sets of the works of popular mystery writers. Though I might one of these days, I really don't plan to read them, but if I ever do want to at least I have them in my collection for whenever that time might be.

I know what you mean. For my first buy of 2010 I got The Stokes Field Guide to the Birds of North America by Donald Stokes with my 50% coupon.

22225 I made this resolution last year and it wasn't easy to keep but I am going to give it another try again this year. I resolve not to let others' negative opinions of my book buying get to me. It's my money and I can spend it how I want! So there! Happy New Year my fellow book buying addicts! :-)

22225 Half Price is going to send me to the poorhouse! They are awful enablers! I got this email today about HPB Marketplace found at: http://www.hpbmarketplace.com/

HPB Marketplace offers an expansive selection of new, used, out-of-print, and hard-to-find books, music, and movies, and an unbeatable selection of textbooks.

In partnership with Monsoon Commerce Solutions and Alibris, leaders in used and collectible books, music, and movies, Half Price Books offers shoppers access to more than 120 million items stocked by independent sellers from 45 countries around the world.

Our partnership means that you'll notice the names Monsoon Commerce Solutions and Alibris at various points during your HPB Marketplace experience, including on your credit card statement ("Alibris*Halfpricebks") if you make a purchase here. You will also need to create a log-in for your HPB Marketplace account that is different from your log-in for HPB.com.

I haven't made a purchase from this site, yet, because I'm not too thrilled with the cost of shipping, but it does seem to be a fine network for finding that hard-to-find item for which you are willing to spend a little extra on to get. Happy hunting in this New Year!

Wow! That's more than I've spent at Borders all YEAR! But then again, I've have spent a good amount of money at SO many other book stores and sites, so if that's all you've spent, that's not so bad. In any case, we spent the money on books, there can't be anything bad about that. ;-)

22225 I must admit, Borders really knows how to be an enabler with those coupons. They do come out with a new one every couple of days, I'm not sure if that is good or not. lol

22225 I was feeling like I was going through withdrawal, I hadn't bought that many books lately, so today I went on a book buying binge. I went to Half Price and picked up The Reincarnationist by M. J. Rose A Killing Cure (A Jane Lawless Mystery) by Ellen Hart The Mortal Groove by Ellen Hart Hunting The Witch (A Jane Lawless Mystery) by Ellen Hart The Serpent on the Crown (Amelia Peabody, #17) by Elizabeth Peters Sacred Ground by Mercedes Lackey and then at Borders I used another coupon to get Corrag A Novel by Susan Fletcher .
I don't think I will buy any more books this year. Good thing the year ends in only a couple of weeks. ;-)
