If I'm not alone, which books have you had to force yourself to finish?"

Actually, just in the last year I have done an about face on this. I USED to force myself to finish a book I started, no matter what. But I realized, and you need to also, there's just too many great books out there to read to waste your time on the lousy ones. If you've read it a bit and you find you're not liking it, the stop it and start another one, hopefully a better one. One thing I've found is sometimes tastes change. I have a shelf of books I started and couldn't finish that I go back to every so often and pick from to try again, and every so often I find that now I do like what before I did not. But don't waste your time on the bad ones, you only have so much free time to give to the good ones and there are way more of those out there. :-)

Oh yes, I often go through a book a day and every so often go through up to three a weekend.

Just want to say hello and welcome to all the new joiners. When I created this group, I never imagined the numbers of members we would get up to. It's so nice to know we are not alone. :-)

22225 I finally gave in and went to my closing Borders to pick up Change-up Mystery at the World Series by John Feinstein and Tempest's Legacy (Jane True, #3) by Nicole Peeler for 30% off each. I figured with the way this store was emptying out so quickly, there wouldn't be anything left when they finally got to offering better deals like 40% or more. :-(

Kerra, just a thought, but one way I read and get my exercise at the same time is through listening to audiobooks. Just slip on the headphones and go jogging or hop on a treadmill.
Bookcases (22 new)

22225 The bookcases I love are IKEA's Billy bookcases. They come in different heights, I have the 5 foot tall, six shelves ones. They aren't too expensive, $49.99-$69.99 depending on the style and color you get. I've had mine for at least 10 years now and just keep getting more. I currently own 14 of them. You can see them here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/pro...

22225 I don't know of community groups, but one place I like to buy books for those prices is at the public libraries. All in my area have a couple of shelves worth of books for sale year round for less than a dollar a piece and many tend to do big sales every couple of months.

22225 Being a librarian, for me reading on the job can be part of the job. But that's not enough for me, I also like to read on my lunch break. Can you tell I love books? ;-)

22225 Two months before, they had faced death together, trapped in the subterranean vaults beneath the abadoned gardens of a long-vanished Renaissance palace. In a moment of deperate weakness, they had sought comfort in each other's arms. Only, they had cheated death.

Michelle, cool! It's nice to see someone else aiming for such a high number. :-)

Wow, Ashley, that is a tough choice. I've read "A Discovery of Witches" and love Kim Harrison and Patricia Briggs. Go eenie, meenie, miney moe with those three. :-)

22225 I've kept all the textbooks I got in college, too. I even have textbooks that I got from friends who didn't want them anymore but couldn't sell them. You never know when the information in those books might come in handy.

I went to the Closing sale the first week, but the best deals they had was 20% off books, not a real good deal when I could still do better from Amazon. But I just got an e-mail the other day that starting today they sale moves up to 25-50% today, so I think I'll check things out again.
Mar 03, 2011 04:08PM

22225 I'm sorry Borders is hurting, but when I saw a bunch of books I had preordered months again from Borders.com had been put on backorder, I just couldn't take it. I don't want to wait anymore for my books so I called them to cancel my orders and reordered them from Amazon.

Sorry to hear that Brittany. :( Maybe you can at least satisfy your need to read with visits to the library. Keep your nose stuck in a book when you have free time and you won't be surfing the net looking at book selling websites. Hope you find a job soon so you can start buying again.

22225 Oh yes, it is very difficult for me to get rid of or even lend any of my books. I even have a problem selling any duplicates I might somehow end up with! My family keeps asking where else can I put my books and I tell them if i have to I'll just sell my living room furniture to make more space, I can alway sit on the floor. :-)

22225 On to March, spring is almost here! Share what you bought this month.

lol. Well, I've done you one better, I think. I came across three series from the 90s that I had very much enjoyed, but lost, due to moves, lending, etc. So, adding eight more to my total for the month, which brings me to thirty-three. Cripes! That's more than a book a day! *dies*..."

Erin, I think I can maybe make you feel a little better. My dad asked me to join him for a run over to his local library today. I figure sure, why not, I haven't been there in a while, I'll maybe pick up a new book or two from the used book shelves. Well, I ended up picking up a bit more than that: Adventures in Time and Space by Mary P. Taylor Immortal Coil (Star Trek The Next Generation #64) by Jeffrey Lang Once Dead, Twice Shy (Madison Avery, #1) by Kim Harrison Blonde With a Wand (Babes-on-Brooms, #1) by Vicki Lewis Thompson Chick with a Charm (Babes-on-Brooms, #2) by Vicki Lewis Thompson The Venus Fix (Butterfield Institute, #3) by M.J. Rose The Princess and the Pea (Faerie Tale Romance) by Victoria Alexander Faith of Tarot (Tarot, #3) by Piers Anthony which brings me up to 32 for the month. Now don't feel so bad about getting more than a book a day this month, don't forget, it is February and February only has 28 days anyway. If this were January or March, we would be at such a high ratio, now, would we? ;-)

Sheesh, talk about making a pie crust promise. I ended up coming home from the library today with Remarkable Creatures from the used book shelf. :-)
