Got another delivery from Thriftbooks:

Just got
as well as
and
, two of the best books to come out this year.

It's about the only time I..."When I was a kid I would go and sit on the counter in the upstairs bathroom, leaning against the wall and putting my feet across the sink, and read there because it was the only room in the house that the rest of the family wouldn't just open the door and bother me. :-)

Hmm, let's see. I own about 4500 books. Of those, about 1700 are nonfiction/reference books, so I'm not including them since you don't read those cover to cover. Of the about 2800 that are fiction, I have read about half of them so that leaves 1400 that are unread fiction. Now, considering that I am such a chronic reader and do tend to average about a book a day, 1400 unread books divided by 365 days per year equals about 4 years to read my unreads. And that's only if I don't reread and also stop buying new books to read, and that certainly is not likely to happen. :-)

Boy, I feel odd saying I just shelve them in bookcases with the books I have read. :-)

If you are an author or a book seller of another sort, post your announcments and/or advertising, things like giveaways, self-publishing, book swaps, etc., here under this folder for the book buyers to see. Thanks.
Jean wrote: "Would offering up my book for a Goodreads giveaway be considered spamming, since I'm the author?"Jean, I don't think so, so long as you only make the announcement under one thread. Spamming IMO is posting identical words under multiple threads that have nothing to do with those threads.
FYI, I have just created a special folder for just such announcements as yours, feel free to post your giveaway announcement here:

No one gets that I LOVE buying the books I read -- my parents tell me I'm wasting my money -- they just don't understand how wonderful it is to hold a book in your hand and read it, knowing that it's yours and you can pick it up whenever you want! ..."Oh, Adalie, you SO belong here. I know exactly where you are coming from, my folks do the same thing to me and one of the reasons I buy is because I want a book I love to read to be available whenever I want to read it, too. Welcome to the B.B.A.A.! :-)

Lea, Ellie has a great suggestion. The group "What's the Name of That Book" found here
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/185 is very good at helping to identify lost books such as yours.

Beth and Susan, if you like Sweeps, I think you might also like
Isobel Bird's Circle of Three series, it starts with
So Mote It Be, as well as Tiernan's other series Balefire, it starts with
A Chalice of Wind.
Celia Rees has also written some pretty good YA fiction along the same theme. Check out
Witch Child and
Sorceress, and
City of Shadows: Book 1,
A Trap in Time: Book 2, and
The Host Rides Out: Book 3

I'm pretty close to do the same. I don't like to buy the top book on the stacks for fear it's been handled too much. I'll flip through the next couple under it looking for the one in the best condition.

Got
from Borders and
from Thriftbooks.

Check this out: "Books Without Batteries:The Negative Impacts of Technology"

Got an Amazon delivery today:
Lea wrote: "Joseph, OMG -- I just realized how many books you have?! That is amazing!!"lol. Yeah, Leah, I do have quite a library that I must admit I am a bit proud of. And not all of my books are on Goodreads, either. At last count, I actually have 4505 items in my collection. :-)

Just curious, but how many Goodreads friends do you have? Why are they your friends? I mean, are they people you really know or did you meet them here? Did they ask to be your friends or did you ask to be theirs?
The reason I ask is because I currently have 95 "friends" and I really only know about 5 off them. Most of the others asked me to be their friends. Why they asked I don't know, but I just figured why not? I think or at least hope they get something out of being my friend because to be honest I'm not sure what to get out of being their's. What do you get out of having friends on Goodreads? Thanks for the input.

I'm so glad I found this group -- whenever I start feeling anxious that just maaaaaybe I'm buying too many books, I come over here and there you all are, apparently just as obsessed as I am...."It's so nice to know we're not alone, isn't it? :-)

Well, I started off with a delivery from Amazon of
