I'm the same way, a chronic rereader who often borrows first and then goes out to buy for my own library if I like it. If I do ever move, I'm going to need a separate truck just for my books! :-)
Melanie wrote: "I HATE MOVIE COVERS!
I'm terribly picky all my series have to have the same covers I cant get a different printing and i can not stand movies covers also I try to make all my series the same hight which is hard when they bring out the last one in a super tall book for no apparent reason then two year later they will bring out the small ones..."To be honest, I've never come across the problem of having to buy a movie cover, but that's probably because I very rarely buy a book because of the movie.
I know what you mean about trying to match heights, though. I like to do that as well as matching cover styles with copies I already own, but if I can't I just live with the differences. As they say, don't judge a book by its cover! ;-)

I've flagged it."
I've seen 3, 4 counting this and I think there is more."I believe I did delete at least 10 of these spams. I will not tolerate this annoyance and will delete them as well as the poster of them from the group as quickly as I can. Please do keep flagging them as you find them, hopefully this will help as well. Sorry I can't do more.

Most of you likely have notice lately we seem to have been invaded by annoying spammers who keep posting identicle messages in multiple threads that have nothing to do with the subject of the threads. As I see them I am deleting them as well as the poster of these from the group. I will do the best I can to get rid of these annoyances as quickly as I can, but you can probably help by flagging these messages for the Goodreads staff. Thanks.

Where I shop often depends on what I am buying.
New paperbacks I often buy from Borders with their coupons since Amazon doesn't offer anything off on paperbacks.
New hardcovers I buy from Amazon since they usually have the best deals and I'm sure to spend enough for free shipping.
I'll browse for used books at Half Price and the public libraries and if I am looking for a particular used title I'll also check out Thriftbooks.com.
If I'm nearby and have the time I'll also stop in to Andersons Book Shop to look for autographed books and at Barnes and Noble to check their clearance shelves.

I went to Anderson's Book Shop and got to hear
Lois Lowry and
Eric Rohmann talk about the book they worked on together
Bless This Mouse as well as get an autographed copy of it by both them, plus I picked up already signed copies of
The Running Dream by
Wendelin Van Draanen and
Five Flavors of Dumb by
Antony John.

"We don't need any thanks," I said. Around us, the thyme that Hanna had planted was blooming, each bush covered with bees gorging themselves on the fragrant nectar. I thought of an old bit of folklore I'd heard once- that each thyme blossom contains the soul of a dear departed one- and felt glad that Jessica would be around to take care of the garden and carry on Hannah's tradition of growing thyme.

I detest lending anything, especially books. They never come back in the same condition they went out, if they come back at all. I haven't leant anything since high school because of this. IMO, if a person wants to borrow a book, they can go to the public library, not my private library. Maybe I am being a bit selfish, but I spent the money to buy these books for my library and I want them well taken care of. Nobody can do that as well as I want but me.

At Half Price I picked up
and
. I hope to get a book signed at Andersons later tonight by Lois Lowry.

I've got two books a friend loaned to me over a decade ago that I've been hemming and hawing over what to do with them. I lost touch with him long ago and at the moment have no idea where he is, so I can't return them without a lot of digging. I've been tempted to sell them since I really don't want them, but I feel guilty about doing that since they really aren't mine. Got any suggestions?

I came across this article this morning that I thought fellow book buyers would find interesting:
So you like to eat, and you like to read...sometimes you may like to mix the two in a place called a bookstore. Which got us at the Tribune thinking, where are the better bookstores in the nation, now that places like Borders is down-sizing. Here are some recommendations. --- Jeff Cercone, Dan Shumski, Stephan Benzkofer, Ross Werland, and Brian MacQueen

I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but please don't forget that you can get books for free from your public library, you just have to give them back after a little while, but at least you don't have to stop reading just because you stopped buying. Read the books from the library and when Lent is over, then go out and buy them! :-)
