This may be out of your comfort zone Alex, but you could see about doing a local artist/author event. You meet all kinds of new people and other authors. I was really nervous about my first one, but it was fun and laid back. I didn't have to give presentations or anything. People would stop by and we would have casual conversations. The conversations always start with my books so it isn't as hard as starting a random conversation with someone. Plus I get to meet the other authors who participate and share experiences.

October marks the end of my first year and I have seen a significant loss. I can not afford much paid marketing so I am mainly limited to various forms of free marketing (guest blog posts, social media, and free/cheap community events). I try to do a little paid marketing when I can but it is normally only once every couple months. The only thing I have really seen results from is releasing a new book so I am trying to shift my focus to writing more than marketing. I haven't decided yet how I feel about paid marketing, but I think I will always do some form of free marketing. All I am really out is my time, and honestly, I enjoy doing it so it can't hurt, right? :)

I always ask permission first to be polite and to play it safe. I also only use a sentence or two of that review.

I am pretty well known in my family for my cooking and baking skills, and not for a good reason. Lol I have been working hard at it though, and while I still have a lot of misses, I am getting better. :)

I made a cake!!!! Ok, so if you don't know me I am sure this is a weird "something good," but to give you some insight, I am NOT a baker. Baking is meant to be done with love and you can usually taste the hate in my baking. It is not fun for me, but I wanted to make a cake for my 2 year-old's birthday. I am shocked. It is the right texture, it didn't fall apart, and it is not burnt. It even tastes good! I am just excited and wanted to share my major accomplishment for the day. :)

I have had similar experiences. Libraries that have me for author events will typically accept on the spot, but all others have a different list of requirements.

Congrats Alex on completing your second draft and even bigger congrats on a much needed break I am sure. ;)

Congrats Joyce on your progress with book two. I agree with your sentiments about this group and am happy you are finding this group so supportive! :)
