152301 Yes, Alice is heavy on the weird stuff so it can be difficult to enter the story. Peter Pan is more a child adventure but with some deep/dark sides (for Barry, the lost children are not related with losing an object but a person). I love how Hook and Peter play their characters.

152301 Busy week, I hadn't time to read during 3 days.

My unfinished book is finished! Yey! I started it in April, but with a war and army oriented story, it wasn't my cup of tea, even if it's nice to read SciFi once in a while. I've read really good books this year, ones I couldn't put away and finished very quickly, so I've huge problem with books I find average or with a story not really interesting.

I read 2 graphic-novels: Mafalda, which I read when I was kid. I found it better as an adult, so I'll continue the series. The other is Bone, Vol. 1, I never heard about the series before, I found it nice and entertaining.

Last-quarter review:
40 weeks completed
--
76 novels read
21 ***** stars books
45 comic books, manga, picture books and short stories read
32070 pages read (I read 14500 in 2014)
--
39 female authors
49 male authors

152301 Haha, not it's just that almost all the folders are available! We'll reach the last quarter only on week 39. There's still plenty of time to complete the challenge (or to try to).

152301 Hi there :)
I added a poll to see what everyone prefers for the 2016 reading challenge, so we'll have a better idea if we stay here or move to a new group!

152301 I loved Dahl's books when I was a kid but I never read Revolting Rhymes. It was banned in Australia in 2014, so I figured it was ok for this category.

It's a retelling of some well known fairytales (Cinderella, Jack, Red...) but with a humorous touch and with no mercy. It's very short (48p of poems) so I read it quickly. I enjoyed it a lot, there were some pleasant surprises and, for once, the morals were not cheesy. Not really recommended for children but very nice for grown-ups :)

152301 Week 45: a banned book.
December 10 - December 16, 2015

When a book is released, it can be very different from what the society is ok with. Some books were ahead of their time, others are/were totally offensive for religious or bigoted people. You'll try one of them, banned, censored, challenged, etc.

How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author, please). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.

2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?

3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.

4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!

**If you chose the same book as another group member for the same week, do not create a duplicate thread.**

152301 I'll go with the crazy romance and drama Romeo and Juliet for this week. I never read Shakespeare before and it's a big classic, so I hope the writing will be nice enough.
Aug 23, 2015 03:54AM

152301 I didn't read plays for a long time (except some for children which I enjoyed), but I never read Shakespeare so it will be interesting to try one of his plays :)

152301 Week 48: a book written by an author with your same initials.
November 26 - December 2, 2015

152301 I really don't remember well, but when I read it, the anime was almost fresh in my mind and I found the book less dramatic for some things (maybe related to animals?). It's probably more difficult to see abuse or death with pictures than with words.

152301 Which trilogy are you reading? Riyria Revelation

What is the title of the 2nd book? Rise of Empire (books 3 and 4 in an omnibus)

Did you enjoy the book?
I've a mitigated opinion about this one, the 1st part was focused on a character I don't like and the 2nd spent a lot of time on a ship which really doesn't interest me. Some parts were nice and I liked to spend more time with the 2 heroes, but I was happy to see the end.

Which book did you prefer between the 1st and the 2nd?
The 1st had more humor and was more fun but lacked some quality in the writing. The 2nd had the good writing but a not really interesting story. So, the 1st!

152301 Good choice for Uprooted :)
I've the same problem with series, it was easier when I bought all the books in the series and read them one after one other! I've some ongoing series, I hope I won't forget most of the story when the new book will be released.

152301 Scotland is great (nice people and awesome landscapes, the only problems are the midges and the sheep). I hope you'll enjoy the book :)

152301 Same for me.
It was easy to choose my top 4 this time, but it was more difficult to rank the other topics.

152301 Silvia, you can dive in the other Hobb's books without problem if you loved Assassin's Apprentice (maybe avoid the Soldier Son series, lots of people have problems with it... I didn't finish the 1st book). The Liveship Traders was probably my favorite series by her, with plenty of interesting characters and some strong women.
There are cross-overs between her series, so read them in order :)

152301 Krishna > this one is already in the 2016 list :)

152301 A book with a plant (tree, flower, etc) on the cover.
I already found 3 listopias on Goodreads :D

I like your suggestion Laura, the self-published books I read are often under 100, so I'd have plenty of choices for a category like this :)
