Have fun with the second book :)

I'll try to read The Golem and the Jinni this year, I only read very good things about it :)

Which of the books is your favorite?

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, the subject was well addressed.
The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? Not at all!
Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? Eleanor and Parks (tearful eyes, not crying) and Fairytales for Wilde Girls was very moving.

I decided to finally put Nimona for my graphic novel week, because I'm lazy and want a 5 stars. And it's great, you have to read it.
In the future, I went to the Sand world, which was very well done, unusual and interesting. It was more fast paced than the Silo series, a thing I appreciate a lot, and I was very pleased to see I liked all the family. I'm almost desperate there is no sequel as I would like to learn more about this interesting world, its technology, and its past.
So, I didn't cry for my crying week. I chose The Fault just because it's a difficult subject and I'm always tearful when I read a book about death or illness, but no watery eyes there, so I'm disappointed. Except for this huge fault (bad feelings descriptions), the writing was smooth and the story was well told, so I won't complain a lot (read this in 2 days, I can't say it's a bad book :p). As I cried with my high school book, the challenge is overall fulfilled.
Side-reads:
- Books:
How to Be a Pirate, lots of dull pirate things, give me back my dragons.
The Adventures of Maya the Bee, yes it's a children book and it's old so it's free! I enjoyed all the tiny bugs and the story was smooth (and a bit dark).
The Talisman, King and his doorstops! It's a re-read (3rd time?), good story as usual but I find the violence and the sexualisation difficult to read as an adult.
Artemis Fowl, the world building was amazing, I was not really interested in the characters but what the author did with the fairies... wonderful! I'll continue the series for sure.
The War of the Worlds, I'm happy I read it from an historical point of view, otherwise it was very dated and I didn't like the characters.
- Graphic novels: Saga, Volume 4 & Saga, Volume 5 which were good; Mafalda revient ! which was ok; The Underwater Welder had an usual subject, it's about diving and losing a member of the family; Superior Iron Man, Vol. 1: Infamous and vol 2, having an evil Tony was quite interesting but the 2nd volume was shallow so I hope it won't continue this way; Hawkeye, Vol. 4: Rio Bravo was a nice end to the series; Six Feet Under and Rising (iZombie 3) was weird but I enjoyed the fan service.

Otherwise, I liked the characters, their personalities and the humour. The subject was difficult and overall well addressed, taking in account family, lovers, friends, etc. The writing was smooth and I enjoyed it but, for the moment, I'm not looking forward to read other books from this author so I suppose I'm a little disappointed to have read an unmoving story about a subject that moves me a lot usually in books.

Lisa, you can have a look at my comic books shelf, maybe you'll find some ideas for futur reads :)

I saw the movie too, Tom Cruise's character is probably one of the worst fathers on TV (for a "good guy"). The updates on the aliens and fighting were well done, but it wasn't enough for me to enjoy the "new" story.

I've to read 1984 and Handmaid's Tale, they are on my reading list, I just need to finish The War of Worlds first (ZzzZzz). I preferred The Time Machine from this author! It's interesting to see how his books helped to build the current sci-fi literature.

Jennifer > France is worth it if you travel in several parts of the country as we have really different landscapes and cities (I don't see the point of going only to Paris. London is more beautiful, interesting and friendly as a big city).

Detergent! x)
I read Animal Farm as a school book too (read all my books too), I'm curious to see what you'll think about it as we seem to have pretty similar tastes (except for The Giver, I totally disagree).
For the published this year, if you're ok with fantasy/fairy tales, have a look at Uprooted. Otherwise, there are some interesting choices is the official 2015 listopia: https://www.goodreads.com/book/popula...
(as this topic came early in the list, some of us read "a book published the year before reading this week", so there were 2014 books too).
For the "place you want to visit", you can pick up somewhere which is not a "real" place (I went to Neverland, some went to Hogwarts, etc - of course these two are real), if nothing else is appealing to you.
