152301 I read it in 2013, it was interesting, a little strange but I enjoyed it anyway :)

152301 I read the 1st volume, enjoyed the art, but not the story and the characters!
Have fun with the second book :)
152301 Ah, Genesis! I found it totally by chance and what a book!
I'll try to read The Golem and the Jinni this year, I only read very good things about it :)

152301 Congrats! I hope you enjoyed the challenge and most of the books :)
Which of the books is your favorite?

152301 Which book did you read? The Fault in Our Stars

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, the subject was well addressed.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? Not at all!

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? Eleanor and Parks (tearful eyes, not crying) and Fairytales for Wilde Girls was very moving.

152301 Order is the same as in books: you start in the top right and move to the bottom left. I've no problem with this, as I read comics since I was a kid and even read manga in the japanese way (so left to right, you start by "the end" and everything is reversed). Some are easier to follow than others, of course, and I prefer when the text is light :)

152301 We are halfway done with Week 40! You're probably very sad, you cried, and cried, drowning your book, your keyboard, your house, etc. Or maybe you're just crying because you didn't cry once while reading the book you chose! Tell us about it, it's a good therapy.

This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)

152301 Where was I? ^^; I read like a lot but was too much lazy (and busy) to update here.

I decided to finally put Nimona for my graphic novel week, because I'm lazy and want a 5 stars. And it's great, you have to read it.

In the future, I went to the Sand world, which was very well done, unusual and interesting. It was more fast paced than the Silo series, a thing I appreciate a lot, and I was very pleased to see I liked all the family. I'm almost desperate there is no sequel as I would like to learn more about this interesting world, its technology, and its past.

So, I didn't cry for my crying week. I chose The Fault just because it's a difficult subject and I'm always tearful when I read a book about death or illness, but no watery eyes there, so I'm disappointed. Except for this huge fault (bad feelings descriptions), the writing was smooth and the story was well told, so I won't complain a lot (read this in 2 days, I can't say it's a bad book :p). As I cried with my high school book, the challenge is overall fulfilled.

Side-reads:
- Books:
How to Be a Pirate, lots of dull pirate things, give me back my dragons.
The Adventures of Maya the Bee, yes it's a children book and it's old so it's free! I enjoyed all the tiny bugs and the story was smooth (and a bit dark).
The Talisman, King and his doorstops! It's a re-read (3rd time?), good story as usual but I find the violence and the sexualisation difficult to read as an adult.
Artemis Fowl, the world building was amazing, I was not really interested in the characters but what the author did with the fairies... wonderful! I'll continue the series for sure.
The War of the Worlds, I'm happy I read it from an historical point of view, otherwise it was very dated and I didn't like the characters.

- Graphic novels: Saga, Volume 4 & Saga, Volume 5 which were good; Mafalda revient ! which was ok; The Underwater Welder had an usual subject, it's about diving and losing a member of the family; Superior Iron Man, Vol. 1: Infamous and vol 2, having an evil Tony was quite interesting but the 2nd volume was shallow so I hope it won't continue this way; Hawkeye, Vol. 4: Rio Bravo was a nice end to the series; Six Feet Under and Rising (iZombie 3) was weird but I enjoyed the fan service.

152301 I absolutely not cried. I was a bit sad for several pages, but no watery eyes or whatever. It's a shame because I cried reading Eleanor & Park, so I think the fault is totally in the writing. I need some gut feelings, butterflies in the stomach, fast heart beats, wanting to stay in bed forever and other drama to understand what the characters are going through. "He loved her" and other "She cried" are total failures for me.

Otherwise, I liked the characters, their personalities and the humour. The subject was difficult and overall well addressed, taking in account family, lovers, friends, etc. The writing was smooth and I enjoyed it but, for the moment, I'm not looking forward to read other books from this author so I suppose I'm a little disappointed to have read an unmoving story about a subject that moves me a lot usually in books.
152301 I agree, the New 52 have an overall nice quality. Batman was pretty nice and I liked Batgirl too but it was a bit dark, I've to try some others.

Lisa, you can have a look at my comic books shelf, maybe you'll find some ideas for futur reads :)

152301 It's nice to see an addition from Popsugar for fall! I'll keep this part of the year for re-reads, series and books nominated for the Goodreads awards, so I won't participate. Don't forget to add it in your 2015 plans, so we can discover new books ;)

152301 30% in, I'm enjoying the writing and the story is entertaining. They are not the usual teenagers (a bit too much sophisticated) but I like their personalities at this point.
152301 I know Wonder Woman because of the old TV show but never tried the comics. I plan to read Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 1 which will be released next year, as the other "Earth One" did well in retelling the beginning of well known characters.

152301 I just finished the book, it felt too much dated for me and I didn't connect with the narrator. However, as with The Time Machine, it was interesting to see the point of view from this time on these futuristic subjects.

I saw the movie too, Tom Cruise's character is probably one of the worst fathers on TV (for a "good guy"). The updates on the aliens and fighting were well done, but it wasn't enough for me to enjoy the "new" story.

152301 0.5 books are often used to tell something which doesn't fit in the other books, like past stories of the main characters or events related to a side character. Sometimes when I finish a series, I'm frustrated because I want to know more about some details and, for this, 0.5 novella are great. Some authors do it really in the right way, others are just making money (like retelling a known story but from another main character's point of view).
152301 Ah yes, Divergent uses ideas from other dystopian books, so it can be a problem if you read it before books like The Giver. I think there is a lot of complexity in the Giver Quartet, but you can see it only if you read all the books. And of course, the writing style is light, which is ok for me as I enjoy a lot children books when the stories are interesting.

I've to read 1984 and Handmaid's Tale, they are on my reading list, I just need to finish The War of Worlds first (ZzzZzz). I preferred The Time Machine from this author! It's interesting to see how his books helped to build the current sci-fi literature.

152301 I want to re-read 2 of my favorite series (which are 7 books long) and maybe 1-2 of my favorite standalones from this year, so a re-read topic is ok for me. The WWII topic is making me really worried, I'll definitely read something short (like a graphic novel) if it won.

Jennifer > France is worth it if you travel in several parts of the country as we have really different landscapes and cities (I don't see the point of going only to Paris. London is more beautiful, interesting and friendly as a big city).
152301 Welcome :)

Detergent! x)
I read Animal Farm as a school book too (read all my books too), I'm curious to see what you'll think about it as we seem to have pretty similar tastes (except for The Giver, I totally disagree).

For the published this year, if you're ok with fantasy/fairy tales, have a look at Uprooted. Otherwise, there are some interesting choices is the official 2015 listopia: https://www.goodreads.com/book/popula...
(as this topic came early in the list, some of us read "a book published the year before reading this week", so there were 2014 books too).
For the "place you want to visit", you can pick up somewhere which is not a "real" place (I went to Neverland, some went to Hogwarts, etc - of course these two are real), if nothing else is appealing to you.
