118012 I'll be finished in a week! I'm just filling in my time now revising with reading. I can't wait to just sit and read for days on end!

118012 The Handmaid's Tale (aka, my favourite book of all time). Seriously, this gets into your head. My English teacher was absolutely terrified of it, and I can understand why. It's not so much the terror that you would expect in a horror novel, it's the fact that the situation could so easily come true.

Other notable books that have left a big impression on me: Crime and Punishment and Rebecca.

I finished listening to Andrea Gibson's spoken-word poetry When The Bough Breaks, and her poetry is just so powerful that I constantly thought about them. I wholly recommend you look up some of her performances, there are some on YouTube. Andrew and When The Bough Breaks are two of my favourites.

118012 Lucy, we're both planning to read Dracula! I'd be interested to compare views on it!

Also, let me know what you think of I Capture the Castle, I've seen it everywhere recently!

118012 I completely agree, and Master and Commander is the perfect book for that!

118012 I'm going to purposely focus on books I own, and that have been on my TBR pile forever. (Note: I only signed up to Goodreads in May last year, so thats when most of my books have been added to my TBR list, but many have been on my handwritten list for longer than that, and I've taken a while to add them to Goodreads)

1. Dracula by Bram Stoker
2. Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy
3. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
4. The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
5. Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
6. The Odyssey by Homer
7. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
8. Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift
9. Emma by Jane Austen
10. Hamlet by William Shakespeare
11. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
12. The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm

118012 I caved with banning myself from reading any of my Summer Reading books until my exams finish.

So I picked up Master and Commander and am rather enjoying it! My dad's been reading them and is up to book 17!

118012 I will! I'm not sure what to expect!

118012 I completely missed your question, Melissa, apologies.

I see you've found it though :)

118012 I'm hopefully reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time,
and hopefully A Week in December by Sebastian Faulks.

118012 I've just discovered Andrea Gibson performing her poetry. It absolutely blew me away.

I Do and Andrew are my favourites so far.

I hands down recommend searching them on YouTube.
118012 Renee, it's only a few days into June! :D

I hope you enjoy it!

118012 It's an understandable mistake to make, if you don't know. I'm glad we could help.

If you need any other questions answering, don't hesitate to ask :)

118012 Hi Emma-Kate,

The 2014 Reading Challenge compromises of your own books, that you pick. It's only optional, and you can set your target here.

Ultimately, you read what you want. There's no set list.

I hope this clears things up for you a bit! Feel free to ask more questions if you're confused about anything else on Goodreads.

118012 I know... I have actually changed it slightly, and I need to update this one. 35 books now!

118012 As part of my Summer reading, I'm planning on reading And the Band Played on and Maurice sometime soon. Although it could be any time during the Summer!

(Thanks to the excellent suggestions by Aitziber).

If anyone would be interested in doing a buddy-read of either, that would be great!
118012 Definitely! I still don't think it compares to 1984!

118012 And I think with start/end dates, people may want to set their own? I know that my summer is definitely longer than most, but thats because University doesn't start to late Sept, so the whole of September is technically my summer too.
