118012 I really wish you could see how far or ahead you were on the iPhone app. All I have is how many books I've read.
118012 I know many people (myself included) have started or have been slowly making our way through this massive series. I thought it would be good to have a general series buddy read, for discussion on all books in the series, and people seemed to agree!

So regardless on if you're on A Game of Thrones, or have battled your way through to A Dance of Dragons Part 2, you're welcome to join.

Please keep spoilers to a minimum. If you want to post them, please use the spoiler tags!

Winter is coming!

118012 I doubt I'm going to get to this this summer. However, I hope you guys enjoy it!

118012 I haven't updated this in ages! Really really poor few weeks reading. Only just got back into it.

42. Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brien
43. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
44. And the Band Played on by Randy Shilts
45. The Giver by Lois Lowry

Still horrendously behind on my challenge, and basically didn't read for a whole month.
Hopefully I can keep going this time and recall make a dent in my list.

118012 No bumps or bruises!

118012 Finished, and WOW. One of the few books I've read that I feel has massively affected me. I'll post the quotes I highlighted, and my wider opinions in a bit. Kinda need to process it all!

118012 Lucy, well done for getting past the reading block! I know how you feel!!

118012 55% in to this book, and I'm starting to realise the length of this book. Nevertheless, it is still fascinating and is keeping me reading. Mum keeps on moaning at me for reading while walking round the house. She's convinced I'm going to walk into something,

Some quotes really stand out, that I've highlighted on my Kindle. I'll probably post them when I've finished, simply to summarise the tone of the book.
118012 I'll definitely try fit this in this month! Need some shorter books to try and make up for my awful lack of reading!

118012 Kassandra, the film is amazing, but it misses out a whole plot line that I think really makes the book. I wholeheartedly recommend you read it!

118012 Camille, that is amazing reading!

118012 Lauren, I might join you on the Maurice read. People seem rather interested, so might make a buddy read thread for it.

118012 It's easy to get into, surprisingly so for a non fiction book. I think the jumping from different organisations and people works well, as it's easy to think 'ah, I'll just read one more snippet'. That then turns into more and you realise it's 1am...
118012 I've heard it's essentially the first Dystopian YA book, before the mass hype of The Hunger Games etc.. Can't wait to see how it compares to more modern takes on the genre.

118012 I'll probably pick it up after And The Band Played On, much like Renee. After your comments, I definitely will! It's on my summer read list, so I'm allowed :P

How far have you gotten in And The Band Played On? I'm nearly half way through, and I dread to think how worse it gets.

118012 Sounds fascinating! Will definitely check it out.

118012 Sandy, would you recommended Maurice?
118012 Hoping to finally get round to The Giver, something that has been on my Goodreads TBR shelf for forever.

118012 I'm currently a third of the way through And The Band Played On. Fascinating book.

118012 I'm about 30% in and really enjoying it, although that does sound slightly macabre. For a book on such a dense subject, it is very readable, and the balance between information and narrative is completely right.

Although, because it's so readable, I almost forget that it's real, and all the people dying are real, and the sheer ignorance of the government and the health services that meant it was years before things really started kicking off. 30% of the way in, 500 people have already been diagnosed, nearly 200 dead, and it's only just got it's first major news coverage. It makes me unbelievably angry.
