I've finished Ulysses, and part way through Moby Dick. Les Mis and War & Peace are on my to read list for the summer, so I should get 4 out of 5 done.
Really frustrated I didn't stick with The Count of Monte Cristo.

Gavin, it's nice for some :P You could always put it up to like 40?

I finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time yesterday and I can wholly recommend it for anyone struggling to find something for the Contemporary month!

How are people doing with their 5 books?

I was going to post on this, but then I realised I could pick a book through a random number generator.
I'll definitely consult this for my Genre reads.

Thanks Kiwi and Kassandra! I just have to push til Wednesday!

Lindsay, I think it wouldn't matter that much. We're never very strict in the group, so I wouldn't worry about it.

There are some great lists there!

Kassandra, John Green is a great writer! I really need to look at more of his works...

Thought I'd just rehighlight this thread considering Summer is a great time to get to those monster books!

1 book behind schedule. Oddly, I'm catching up during the exam period, so my lag that I thought I'd have at the beginning of summer isn't near as mad as I expected.
Can't wait to just spend days reading.

I'm about 150 pages and I've just hit the whaling section. The writing is actually easier than I thought it would be, and I am rather enjoying it.
He weirdly placed a few pages in play format randomly in the middle of a chapter? I don't know why. Almost reminded me of my experience reading Ulysses!
I'm glad I was strong enough to say 'hell yes, I'm going to stick by the number given to me', it's better, and easier than expected!

Wow, Faye!
What did you think of Vanity Fair?

33 pages in and it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Then again, I haven't got to the whaling part yet...
Thanks for the good luck wishes. I'll definitely need them!

Trish, that's a really awesome list!
I picked up A Brief History of Time briefly (no pun intended!), and it was really interesting, and not at all the boring clunky writing science can be.
I really should get round to finishing it some time.

The world hates me!
Because I take forever picking books, and I want to be really strict with myself when it comes to reading my Summer List, I thought I'd number them all and use a random number generator to pick what book to read next.
What did it give me?
Moby-Dick.
Typical.

Go for it, Kiwi!

I'll probably read it around that time too. If you want, we could do a buddy read and see if anyone else is interested?

I know him best from writing a few Doctor Who episodes!

I was trying to think of a summer-ish colour that we hadn't used before!
I'm not a massive football fan, but I do enjoy the World Cup. We are getting together with our neighbours for a barbecue to watch the first England match. It's always a rather sociable affair :)
