118012 If you stick with Catch-22, I found it to be an immensely fascinating and enjoyable book. I hesitated for months on whether or not to read it, and I just decided one day that I was going to read it.

Read it with a pinch of salt. Expect to be confused, but it's worth it.

118012 I can't recommend Margaret Atwood enough! I haven't read a lot of her novels, but all the ones I have read are outstanding. If you can find it somewhere, I adored Alias Grace, her historical fiction book.

I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to read :)

118012 I've updated it again! Added way more structue to it!

118012 I was thinking of setting up a general Game of Thrones series thread. Multiple people seem to be at different stages of reading them, and I thought it would be interesting to have a buddy read for the whole series, so everyone can chat about them.

Opinions? :)

118012 I've just updated my post to include more titles (especially for the genre challenges). Only 3 weeks, then my summer technically starts!

118012 Annie, I would wholeheartedly recommend the LotR trilogy! It's amazing!

118012 Karen, I'm glad it helped you in some way! The most common genre I see is contemporary romance.

Let us know what you pick in this months genre thread. :)

118012 Ah, that sounds wonderful! I thought you meant on the floor or decking or something!

118012 Karen, that's AMAZING reading! And an awesome commitment to the genre challenge!

I hope your recovery runs smoothly!

118012 I'm coming down with a cold. 5 days before my exams start. Typical.

118012 Surely that's really uncomfortable, Faye?

There's nothing like sitting outside and reading a book in the sun! (I definitely wouldn't recommend sitting out in the rain)

118012 I have the summer off, so I read like mad! Plus me and my parents have done a really lazy 2 week holiday every year, where we basically do nothing apart from laze in the sun and read continually for 14 days! It's so relaxing!

The next few years though, I'll hopefully be travelling like wild in the summer. So I'm not 100% sure how much reading I'll be able to get done!

118012 I didn't know that! That's very interesting, and adds a bit to it!

Regardless, I think it's a decent read!

118012 Monika, I absolutely adore the TV series, but I found the books too frustrating for me. I much prefer Emily's storyline in the TV series, compared to hers in the books, and she's my favourite character. So I'm reluctant to go further. I might continue reading them, if I need to bulk up my numbers.

How are the sequels?
118012 Finished this yesterday. It definitely improved as it went on, but I'm not sure why people attach the 'wow' factor that they do.

Regardless, the story is interesting (although I think the ending was rather rushed, and could have started earlier in the book), and it's a unique idea that has some really interesting parts to it. I'd recommend it, just because it's a relatively simple read. I personally, however, didn't love it.

118012 10 books in May!

Really chuffed with myself!

118012 Hi Gareth and Roseanne,

I understand completely, part of me regrets adding 'Contemporary' to the genre challenge because there is no clear definition.

Faye said in the 'What are you reading' for the Contemporary genre challenge:

Contemporary fiction is 'books that are set in the real world, and where the action takes place within the same decade that the book was written. So, books that are 100% relevant to the time and place in which they are written.'

I personally see them as modern books (probably post 1990s) that contain modern issues (eg. The Kite Runner). Honestly, it's up to you what you wish to define contemporary as.

You can check out our discussion thread for the month's genre, and our suggested reads.

I'd also recommend checking out Goodreads 'Popular Contemporary Fiction' list, it might give you a few more ideas!

118012 I'm gonna make a very light plan for late June. I know that before June 18th, I highly doubt I'll get any reading in.

So, from June 19th til June 30th, I'm hoping to read:
Master and Commander
The Woman in White
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
