118012 I'm so sorry for your loss, Cindy. I think you will enjoy the Zane Grey. All the more so as you imagine your father's enjoyment of the story.

118012 Yes! And it was an unexpectedly delightful mystery.

118012 The Stonewall Riots of June 1969 were a landmark event in bringing Gay Rights to public attention, which is one reason we try to do something commemorative in June each year. For more on this event...

118012 Summer means so many pleasant things; picnics, swimming, barbecues, bonfires on the beach. Yet, we can also associate these things with the inevitable arrival of our insect friends. The charming ladybug, the buzzing bee, the ambitious ant, the pesky mosquito, the fascinating firefly... These creatures are as much a part of summer as bathing suits and citronella.

Mission: Read a book with an insect in the title.
This is a single book mini to be completed before September 20.

Examples:
The Secret Life of Bees
Dragonfly in Amber
The Mosquito Coast
Firefly Summer

118012 Nothing says summer like a cool, sweet slice of watermelon.

For this challenge, read one book with fruit in the title before summer's end. (September 20)

Examples:
Watermelon
James and the Giant Peach
Strawberry Girl
Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit
The Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop & Cafe

118012 I live in New Jersey so summer always means spending some time on a sandy (usually overcrowded) beach. (Usually covered in SPF, huddled under a big umbrella, reading a book, but I'm there.)

Mission: Read one book with a beach or shore town setting before August 31.

For example:

Beaches
16 Lighthouse Road
The Saving Graces

118012 *sings* Because it's JUNE! June, June, June. Just because it's June, June, June! *dances, too*

Mission: Read a book that has the word "bride" in its title. Or a bridal gown displayed prominently on the cover. This is a one book mini-challenge to be completed before June 31.

Examples:
The Princess Bride
The Ghost Bride
The Robber Bride
The Bride
Bed of Roses

1) Read a book recommended by your father or which your father loved
2) Read a book about a father/child relationship

And don't forget to call your dad.

118012 Thanks, Vero! I lucked out in that the things I was reading happened to fall nicely into some of the categories. I only had a few things that I read specifically to meet certain criteria (Puck of Pook's Hill,The Cinderella Kiss, Ella Enchanted) but they were all fun, especially Ella Enchanted.

118012 I'm SO close to a Blackout! Just one book published in 2017 and I'm done. *taps foot while rechecking status of the library wait-list*
