118012 Lol. So, I was doing The Power of One as a buddy read with a friend and she bailed. I had stopped reading to give her time to catch up, but she decided it wasn't worth the hours. I can't blame her... With all the great books out there, why stick with one you don't enjoy?
Unfortunately, I still have about 30% left to read. I just need to get back into the right mindset!

Such a great story!

118012 I went with Rain by W. Somerset Maugham, a fairly long short story. So well written! Although the subject is dark, I really loved it.

118012 I've never heard of those. Is the main characters a little person or more like a leprechaun?

118012 The chase was terribly exciting! I was on the edge of my seat, too! I have mixed feelings about Javert, too. He's probably a good man, but he sees everything in black and white. I keep thinking about how hard he was on himself when he thought he had misjudged Madeleine/Valjean. However, he seems to judge everything based on what he's told by figures of authority, like the church or the courts.

118012 I'm going with Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride and Prejudice which had more humor than romance in my opinion.

118012 Renee's First Pie 2017

118012 Lovely!

I'm technically finished as well. But I'm doing a slow read of Tennyson's In Memorium with another group... And I've become addicted to the sound of poetry being read aloud to me! So I will continue feasting at the banquet of words for a while longer.

This little mini ended up being a great one for where I am right now. :)

118012 I tried The Third Policeman but abandoned it. I think I'm burnt out on this type of humor by Ulysses for a good long while.

118012 Yeah. The beginning was rough. The parts about BOXING aren't as harsh as those mean little boys.

118012 I finally started The Power of One and read more than half in 2 days. (Partly because I wanted to get through his miserable years at boarding school)

118012 I really enjoyed that one, Cindy. There are three main storylines or romances that intertwine, which is why it's so long. One is quite funny, the other two are more traditional. Trollope is a terrific writer and writes women particularly well for a man in his times.

118012 Glennis, I completely agree with you! Rest and restore. You have a few months to work on a bingo and hopefully not all your weeks will be so intense.

118012 It all started with you, Karen, my dear! So grateful for your inspiration!
