You are very welcome, have fun reading. :) I got great laughs from each of them.
101690 That is another good point, and the childhood friendship into love is pretty unbelievable and sad.

If they never even dated others they could not even have a clue to the character/qualities or lack of them in any person. That is actually scary!!!
101690 I am a firm believer in the old adage that "laughter is the best medicine".One of our members requested this topic, and I believe it is a wonderful idea.

Feel free to request other topics that you would like to see in the threads.

Meanwhile, let's get some titles out here for some fun reads.I will start with my FAVS[also on my bookshelf under humor-satire]~

Funny in Farsi A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America by Firoozeh Dumas

How Not To Live Abroad by Shaun Briley

Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, #1) by Louise Rennison

The Cat Who Came in from the Cold by Deric Longden

101690 That is a great film Erica.I enjoy all the Doris Day romantic comedies. A seasonal favorite for me and my daughter is "Christmas In Connecticut" with Barbara Stanwyck ever since catching it one year on TCM.

Oh no,after checking out that series at Amazon, there is no way! I have no interest at all in Pagan or Wiccan beliefs, but now the ancient Druids fascinate me,lol!

Stephen King is too perverted and vulgar for my tastes so that leaves him out,and The Hunger Games just sound too depressing.

As you can tell,I am a picky reader, lol! Then when I find a topic I enjoy, I do it to death, searching for every book that is similar, lol!

Of those the only one I've read is LOTR and I sure loved it.Have only read the first two HPotter books, and enjoyed them, but just haven't got around to the others.
101690 You are soooo Right,Loren! The perfect looks are so unrealistic.I would be perfectly happy ready about two normal average people falling in love,or even some with physical handicaps.

I would love to read the love story of a blind person, for instance.

That is great to hear Jessica since I have it on my TBR list, thanks. :]
101690 For myself, it has to be earth-based.I just cannot relate to the others.
I especially enjoy military, medical or government based stories.
101690 I do not care for 'love at first sight' stories where one or both of the couple are immediately thinking of marriage.Instant attraction is fine, but please no instant visions of 'forever'!

I also do not like long separation stories,or romances where the couple is being constantly separated.

Do not like age differences of over 5 years between the H/H.

H/H to have weird, unusual, or unpronounceable names!

Females that are TSTL[TOO STUPID TO LIVE!]or a doormat type.

My number one aversion is the wounded party that is too messed up to let go of the past and trust Mr. or Miss Right.

Such people in real life are enough to make the interested party go crazy, with their constant need to make the other person prove their love, and there is no reassuring them. They are best avoided!

I would not mind reading a book where Mr. or Miss Right sees that their love interest is just too crazy for them so they move on and give a much more worthy secondary character their heart, after they heal,of course, don't want no rebounds!

I have read too many romances where I felt that the hero or heroine was not good enough for the other, but there was a wonderful secondary character that would be more suitable, yet the author did not 'go there'!

So what things do you dislike seeing in a romance?
Dec 04, 2013 04:11AM

101690 Yes that is another good plot device.

I also like the wounded trust issue,as long as it is not carried too far!

Such as the reader can see how perfect the suitor is for the wounded party, but the wounded one is too messed up to let go of the past and trust again.

I have seen people like this in real life and they are not worth getting involved with because they make the other person 'constantly' prove their love! hey, that just gave me the idea for another thread 'plot devices we hate',lol!

101690 Hi Loren,I know what you mean about books that have "that one scene" or something else that some may find objectionable. I'm thinking of asking the group how they feel about a thread where we can post those books and the element[but not explicitly detailed] that keeps them off the bookshelf]for others to decide for themselves if those books are something they would want to read or not.

As far as YA books.I welcome young adults here and enjoy those books myself,so feel free to add them to our bookshelf. :]

101690 LOL, Hi Jim and WELCOME to the group. :]

No,Loren,I never heard that saying, but it makes sense that it could often happen that way,if there isn't enough in common.

I also love strong heroines, really can't stand airheads that are TSTL.
Dec 03, 2013 02:25PM

101690 Oh yes,I just love both scenerios, either attraction or dislike.I love how authors turn them into wonderful love stories!!!And yes, Dorcas, I can imagine a writer being very pleased after they develop a great story.

I have to tell you ladies two other things that I dearly love in a romance story,is when our hero is totally flustered by the heroine,or how he seems able to read her like a book.I have been totally enchanted by both types of heroes,[swoooooon!].One I read was so funny because the poor Colorado cowboy hero was so tickled by how the Italian heroine gestured wildly with her hands when she was excited or upset.Of course he had never seen such a thing let alone heard anyone rant in Italian,or eaten such fabulous cooking, lol!

I will have to check out Carolyn Brown's work. I just hope she doesn't go too overboard with the verbal sparring, because I have read a few that turned me against the heroine so that I wanted the hero to kick her to the curb and take another character that I liked much better!Actually, I wish sometimes an author would write a story like that.Where an underserving not good enough for our hero/heroine gets dumped for a much better secondary character that we have come to love. Have you all ever read a story where you wished that?

101690 Hi Ljb, were you able to check the genre boxes? Then you click close or the x, not save, and it should let you add to group bookshelf.

Yes, I also really enjoy seeing what others have read, and I am so happy that we can get clean, non offensive books to read.
