Hmm,I wonder why Marines are so different than Air Force GIs? My dad retired from the AF,and my late husband of 30 yrs,and two brothers-in-law did some tours, and yet not one of them habitually used profanity! So I would have to disagree with you. I have found in my 63 years that habitual vulgar language is most certainly a very excellent measure, and even as a teen and throughout my life I have avoided close ties to such people.
Another interesting thing is though my hubby and I enjoyed all the old classic war films we hated the vietnam-era ones with their filthy language and neither of us ever experienced but a couple of servicemen who ever used such language,so the producers of those films have absolutely no respect from us.
Plus my husband was stationed in DaNang,Vietnam and he said only one GI in his outfit talked like those men in those trashy films! I used to hang out at the base bowling alley and cafeteria a lot,and never heard the airmen use filthy language, except rarely a 'mild' expletive.

I agree totally Dorcas, with the Publishing houses being the first step, and the Booksellers such as Amazon,B&N ,ect being the second step.
I hadn't heard of commonsense media ,but I have them bookmarked now, thanks. It is so awesome that they cover EVERYTHING~books, movies,tv shows, music, even games! :]
Many are fans of 'The Shining',but I didn't like the profanity, and I'm sure Stephen King's book would not be 'clean'.
You are so right right Jim about today's PG movies, but I think most of us here would appreciate at least some type of warning about 'content' such as profanity, and sex scenes, and that should be an incredibly simple and straight forward matter to just tell us whether or not a book contains those elements.
Hi Sandy, I'm glad that you added that info about Winter Garden, because I have/do read books about WWII and also about the oppression of females under radical Islam,so, I don't avoid All sad subjects, and especially not if it's non fiction.Romance is the genre where I am most intolerant of ANGST.You are so right that much of historical events are sad,yet certainly do need to be told. I am now looking forward to this book by Kristin Hannah, thanks to you.I have never read a Russian account of that war and it does sound like it would be engrossing so I have reserved it at my library. Thanks again for telling us about it and please feel free to add it to our bookshelf.
Hi Sandy,WELCOME to the group, and thanks for the book review.I'm sure some would enjoy it,but I make a point of avoiding 'tear-jerkers/sad' books. :]

LOL,I have no idea, but I do love Italian food!
Dorcas wrote: "Cadbury was bought out by Kraft and Hersheys in the last 10 years or so. I'm not sure if that was always the case, because I remember my dad being thrilled when I was a kid several years after he had been stationed in England, because he found Cadbury candy bars at a store[would have been in the '60's] and I don't remember him saying anything about a difference. So I wonder if the difference is a recent thing?
I haven't tried Lindt because I don't care for Truffles,but a daughter loves them.
Hmmm don't think I've eaten any Swiss Chocalate unless Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa counts! What names would they be?I sure love Cadbury chocolate from England, though.

Have to admit that 'rekindled sparks' have a lot going for them,heh-heh!
Thank you Dorcas. That is certainly a very original plot as Jim pointed out. It sounds very sweet and interesting.
WELCOME to the group Kate and Mary!I hope you find some good new reads here, and please be sure to add books in this category that you have read to our bookshelf, and my new listopia list that I just sent all the members a PM about.
Happy Reading :]

Hi Erica,I'm glad you liked "Bend In The Road" I came across it several years ago and just love it.I didn't know "The Holiday" was on TV last weekend,so I missed it.I had never seen it before until about a month ago my SIL asked if I had ever seen it when we were discussing countries we would love to visit, the UK countries being a favorite.I reserved it from my library and love it so I will have to get my own copy soon.
Erica wrote: "I like that one, too, Christine. Have you seen "Borrowed Hearts" with Roma Downey? It's a Christmas movie, but one that can be enjoyed year-round."Erica thank you soooo much for mentioning this movie!I had never heard of it,and I love Roma Downey!Have you ever heard her sing/recite~ "Bend In The Road" by Helen Steiner Rice? http://www.bgmcclure.com/Archives/Ben...
While I was at Amazon checking this movie out(which I reserved from my library) I also discovered "12 Men of Christmas which is a parody of "Pride&Prejudice",
and sounds like such fun!
Also "A Christmas Romance" with Olivia Newton-John, Gregory Harrison
and "A Princess for Christmas"~Actors: Katie McGrath, Roger Moore, Sam Heughan, Travis Turner, Charlotte Salt
and I will again be borrowing "The Holiday" Starring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black (2006)
So lots of Holiday Romance movies lined up,including several new ones for me. Thanks Again!!! :]
