Hi Gina, WELCOME to our group, and so glad to have you.I hope you find lots of titles from our bookshelf for your reading pleasure, and be sure to ask me to add those you have read so our bookshelf continues to grow.
Happy Reading!
Chris
What do you all like to fix or buy when it's hot?I love veggie pizza, or buy Subway, now and then.
Also our crockpot is our friend!
I live in north central Ohio right on the south shore of Lake Erie, and it has been in the low to high 80's the past several days, and humid, UGH!I love Fall best of all!
I think all avid readers go through this at times. What do you do when it happens to you?For me, if I find no book is really engaging me, I tend to think that I am just bored with reading for awhile.I usually go back to playing games on my laptop or my Kindle Fire or I get several movies or series on DVD from my library.
If I have given up on some titles that I am pretty sure that I should be enjoying, I make a note of their titles to try again later.
I have also found that reading a different genre than the usual, sometimes helps.
How about it, how did you get through your reading slump?
Becky wrote: "I read a review of P&P&Zombies which claimed (if you can believe it) that Jane Austen would have loved it. I about had a heart attack!"Haha, no way I'm believing that!
Hey Becky,my son,and one daughter and I are huge fans of LOTR.Only my daughter and I have read the books. I loved them even more than she did,and it's such fun reading the Golem's parts, lol!I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE the movies even more!
I do have The Sword of Shannara series on my TBR list, but plan to read Tolkien's 'Silmarillion', Eragon, The Dark Elf Trilogy, and several by Judith Tarr[Alamut, The Dagger and the Cross, and The Hound and the Falcon trilogy], first.
I got several wonderful suggestions in a thread in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Book Club group~ https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Maybe your family would enjoy those, as well.
P&P with zombies, ewwwwww,no way! Zombies are just gross. Don't do zombies, but my son loves them!
Sandy wrote: "I don't have any advice about the LOTR gerne but I know that there a lot of Regency options available. Sarah M. Eden,Josi S. Kilpack and Julianne Donaldson both write some great, fun books."Yes,I have read and enjoyed quite a few of those, including the P&P variations, they are what made me wonder if there are any LOTR variations. :]
Hi Nicole and WELCOME to our group!Thank you for the suggestions.I don't usually read books with a ship setting, but Pride and Persistence sounds very good.
Hi everyone,I was wondering how many of our members love the Fantasy genre, and especially the Lord Of The Rings books by J.R.R. Tolkien, and the films by Peter Jackson?
I confess to being crazy about the eye-candy elf>Legolas, and I wondered if anyone knows of any books that are similar to LOTR with beautiful/good elves.
Is there any fanfiction or variations of LOTR.... like all those for the famous Jane Austen Regency Romance....'Pride and Prejudice'?
Soph wrote: "All her hero diaries are great! Glad you liked it. In order my favourites would be ... (Of Amanda Grange's diaries) 1. Darcy
2. Brandon
3. Knightley
4. Wentworth
5. Tilney
6. Bertram"
Wow,the only names I recognize are #1-3-4, lol! Guess it's been too long since I've read the original.
Soph wrote: "Mr Darcy's Diary is great. Not racy at all. Kara Louise is also great"Soph you were right about 'Mr. Darcy's Diary', I really enjoyed it.I am reading another Miss Julia cozy mystery, but when I am finished I plan to read ~'Only Mr. Darcy Will Do'.
Hi Cindy,I also enjoy sci-fi,but prefer it is Earth-based,not space opera, and also prefer non-murder mysteries. For sci-fi without the fantasy elements have you tried doing a search for 'Hard Sci-Fi'?
Which science fiction books are your favorites?
For non murder mystery there is the 16-book Miss Julia cozy mystery series which I am ready to read book#5 in the series and I highly recommend these. This site might also help you~http://www.cozy-mystery.com/blog/cozy...
Picked up my library reserves of Mr. Darcy's Diary and Only Mr. Darcy Will Do yesterday, so will be reading those soon.Soph, thank you for those author suggestions.
Plus not all mysteries have murder, as the 16-book Miss Julia cozy mysteries don't feature murder, and there are so many different genres that thrillers fit into, medical, sci-fi, political, horror, ect.
Actually Becky,I think that is a great question.I think this explanation I found describes the difference very well. What do others think?http://www.mysterynet.com/books/testi...
