I think it makes the reader reach deeper inside, beyond appearances and background and appreciate the inner qualities more."So well put Dorcas! Your points also mean that such a plot requires more from the author, and that is another reason that such books are generally more satisfying/fulfilling than the love at first sight plot,IMO.
I see that several books have added to our bookshelf that are on my TBR list and some others that I think I would like, so I am excited to read the reviews from readers! KEEP THEM COMING,and Happy Reading Everyone!
Hi Ljb,I have noticed sometimes when I check the category boxes-"choose shelves" for the book that I am adding that it may take a few seconds before the checkmark appears and the category appears on the top of the ratings/review page you are on.
You can go back and click 'edit' and re-add the categories, watching to make sure that they have been added. Let me know if you can't get it to work and I will contact the MODs. :)
BTW,I usually only add books on our bookshelf page. If you add them from another page you only get the 'read' option until you click 'ADD TO GROUP BOOKSHELF' down at the page bottom... then it takes you to the smaller page where you are able to add your review, and choose from all the genre categories or even add your own, plus the date you started and finished reading the book.
"Opposites-attract"-This is probably my most favorite plot device for my romance reads.I believe that is a huge part of why I am such a total fan of cowboy/city-or working girl romances, that and the fact that an athletically built guy in jeans or western dress slacks and cowboy boots and cowboy hat is just total eye-candy for me,lol!I also so very much enjoy when the H/H share quite a bit of verbal sparring in the beginning,so much more than 'love at first sight',though I can believe and accept 'lust at first sight'.
So which plots are your favs?
Ljb, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but here is what I was told about importing your bookshelf to a group bookshelf~"No, sorry. The only way I know to add a book to the Group Bookshelf is to type the title into the "add books" search box on the Group Bookshelf page, one book at a time." sorry :(
Dorcas wrote: "wow that's cool, Christine! I'm still learning how to do things here on GR. learn something new every day!"I am also still learning things about this site, and still learning new things everyday, too, lol!
I don't care much for short stories either, except I have enjoyed some Novellas, those books with like 2-4 different stories on the same topic[like mail order brides]. Can't believe how many romances there are for Kindle that don't even have 100 pgs! I don't bother with those.
Thank you for that info Dorcas.:)Ljb~ I asked in the Moderator group about importing your bookshelf to our bookshelf here, still waiting for that answer.
I did learn that if you click on "view activity" (sometimes just "view") for a book listed on the bookshelf there's a section on that page, "What Members Thought", which lists all the Group Members who have shelved the book, their rating and review. So any Group Member who writes a review of a book will have it appear on that page. which lists all the Group Members who have shelved the book, their rating and review. That is how I feel Dorcas.I certainly can understand coming to love the characters. When I was reading Christian romance I totally loved the Mule Hollow series by Debra Clopton, and I thought it was wonderful the way that previous characters were often mentioned.I felt like I was revisiting the familiar community of Mule Hollow with each new book. Now if all book series were written like that one, where each book is 'a complete new story' with a beginning, middle and ending,I could tolerate series more. However, I run into far too many where the author forgot an important fact about a recurring character, even many times changing their name,or their history, or having them do something totally out of character, that just ruined the book for me!
Amazingly, in the 13 or more books in the Mule Hollow series that never once happened! It has happened too often in series with far fewer books,so that I would rather avoid them, and that isn't even mentioning the aggravation of reading a book that has no real ending, because they want you to have to get the next book!
Ljb wrote:"the time that I have to read lately is spent on books that I got off this bookshelf. I appreciate it and will add as I find something new :o)" "question(s) - if I try to put a book on this shelf and it is already there - will it allow it or will I be adding a duplicate? is there a way to batch add my bookshelf to this one?"
Hi Ljb,WELCOME to our group, and I am delighted to hear that you have been getting book suggestions from our bookshelf.I hope you have been enjoying them.
I'm sorry to say that I really have no idea about adding a book to the bookshelf that is already there,or adding batches of books at once.I would think that if a book is already there, that yes,it would then be a duplicate.
I will try to find out the answer because I myself have been wondering if others can leave their own reviews for a book that someone else added to the shelf with their own review. Will get back to you on this when I find out anything. Glad you asked that question.
Dorcas wrote: "There, Ive added 6 books Ive read recently. :) You can see my reviews for full content disclosures. But all are what I would rate as PG.Hello everybody!!

Thank you so much for adding your books to our bookshelf!New ones for me to check out too, yaay! :]
I know what you mean about books with that one scene.I totally love the movie "The Magic Of Ordinary Days" it is one of my top favorite romance movies, but haven't read the book. That's a shame that such a scene was included in the book, when it could have been left out as it was in the film.
So why aren't you all telling us about the books you've read and adding them to our bookshelf?Days and days go by without any activity here.
Seems I was wrong about the need for a group like this,if no one is even interested in participating. :(
The first one that I read which surprised me how much I enjoyed it was ~The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley, the next was ~Waterfall[River of Time #1] by Lisa Tawn Bergren[didn't care for book #2],and the last one was ~Second Sight by David l.Williams.There is a movie based on it "The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan" with Lindsay Wagner, Marc Singer, but only available on VHS.
Hi Laure,I just added this edit to my introduction of this group. It might help explain my guidelines more clearly. :]~"Think of the books to be allowed as 'Squeaky Clean',but free of the religious proselytizing of Christian/Inspirational books.
So true, and that's also why I try to remember to always check the 1-2 star reviews because those are the ones that most often mention offensive elements.
Laure wrote: "Wild Child is here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...Maybe not Regency, because it includes colonial India."
Warning!!!! one 2-star reviewer said this about Wild Child! "but the love scenes are pornography in text form."Such books will not be permitted on our bookshelf.
No,those books not only have graphic sex, but profanity as well, including 'F' bombs! Not at all what I think readers looking for 'clean' books want to encounter.
