The 60 Most Reviewed New Books of the Past Five Years

The internet, it’s safe to say, has changed a lot of things. Massive worldwide communication systems have a way of doing that.
One of the more genuinely useful changes brought about by online culture is the phenomenon of the user review. Purchase pretty much anything online—clothing, appliances, coffee—and you can browse mountains of hands-on reviews from previous purchasers. This just wasn’t possible pre-internet.
This applies to books, too, of course. Here we’ve collected the 60 most reviewed new books of the past five years, among Goodreads’ 140 million readers. These are the books that inspired the most people to share their experience. Here’s a little more number crunching for you: All combined, the books listed below have nabbed a total of 24,599,568 reviews from your fellow Goodreads members.
Scroll over the book covers to learn more about each title, and add the ones that pique your interest to your Want to Read shelf.

I have read 39 of the books on this list, DNF'd 10 of the books on this list, and own 11 of these books but haven't read them yet. Every single one of these books has come onto my radar in some way!
Do you mean books reviewed here on Goodreads, or reviewed in other publications, too? I've read 26 of the books, have at least ten more on my TBR, some others I haven't even heard of.
I notice the majority of these titles tend to appeal more to female readers. The majority also look like they would make excellent beach reads. Are they the equivalent of summer movies that briefly capture our collective attention? Any other noticeable trends?
I’ve only read six from your list. Lots of possibilities are available. Here are a few of my recent reviews: What She Found by Robert Dugoni, The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand, The Guide by Peter Heller, Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith.

I never considered this before, but I looked at the list again and realized that some of my lowest-rated read books are in this list. I'm listening to Seven Husbands and am again disappointed. This is not my genre. I moved in a different direction for 2022 and my read books have been excellent for the most part.
I have read a couple of these, Normal People and Elinor Oliphant is completely fine. Enjoyed both very much.
Have read 6 and TBR 9. I have been reading more nonfiction these days. Many of these I have not heard of.. So my favs on the list are Educated, Becoming, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

You're welcome.
Ditto for liking these lists! I am always looking for a good book so appreciate recommendations. Have read 30 of these and enjoyed most of them. Couple I dnf’d but everyone has their own preferences.
I have read very few on this list. My reading partner probably has 15 of them on her shelf so may possibly try some. I am thinking women on Goodreads review more than men .
I think it's great that the vast majority of authors on this list are female, by my very quick check, around two-thirds. I just checked my Goodreads friends and estimate likewise about two-thirds of my friends are female. Rock on!

Many of these books are deeply layered, wonderfully written, complex novels written by authors throughout the world.
Great list! I have read the majority of these books and totally agree with them being on the list, so will definitely work through the rest off these books. So excited to have a bunch of good books to read!
I’ve read 16 of these books. Many others on the list I have little to no interest in. The story setting and premise has to sound unique to me to get my attention The lists are good tho…..so may books …..you know the rest.
Gotta say I'm pretty proud of myself for reading 22 books on this list! Plus, I have quite a few on my TBR list.
These types of lists are wonderful. Please keep them coming. I have read some of the books listed and other books by authors who are listed. And from your email, I just made another list of books that I now want to read. Thank you.
I've read 32 of the books and my 2 5 star books are Project Hail Mary and Daisy Jones in the Six. Both are outstanding audiobooks.
I really only read crime/mystery/thriller, and these are rather rare on this sort of list. I would recommend any book I gave 5 stars to,
I've read 28 of these - love the concept of the most reviewed list. To me that indicates that there are some strong opinions about these books. Definitely added a few new titles to my To Read Shelf based on this list.
Read: 41DNF'd: 1
TBR: 2
5 Stars: Killers of the Flower Moon, Project Hail Mary, This is Going to Hurt, In Five Years and Nine Perfect Strangers
I gave 11 of them 2 stars.
I gave 14 of them 4 stars
So I guess that means I liked a little more than 70% of them. Not bad!
Thrilled to see Beneath A Scarlet Sky on the list. Such an amazing, true story. I learned a lot about WWII from a new perspective. Strongly recommend. Also recommend The Alice Network. Many books in this list are on my want to read list. Happy reading!

I've read 28 of them, with another 5 sitting on my shelf waiting to be read and 4 more on my want to read list!
Surprised that there are no Amor Towles books on this list - Gentleman in Moscow and Rules of Civility are two of my favorites
I have read 19 on the list. I have many listed on the want to read. Some like the four winds, Giver of Stars and Where the Crawdads Sing, Anxious People left a deep mark on my conscious. Others so enjoyable like Daisy and Wives of Evelyn Hugo. I was surprised by the Dutch House as I did not enjoy it. Why are so many good ones missing? Gentleman in Moscow? The Venice Sketchbook, Violetta? Mysteries? Biographies? Thanks to Goodreads for showing me more to read.

Am more surprised by the ones that I have not heard of that are on there!
More lists like this please!
