Goodreads Employees Share Their Summer Reading Plans

When you work at Goodreads, it's pretty tough to keep that Want to Read shelf under control. (And let's be honest, most of us don't even try!) Some of us hoard books all year to read at the perfect moment—reserving titles to suit our mood, surroundings, season, or weather. So we asked our colleagues to tell us which three books they're most looking forward to reading over the summer.
Ranging from exciting new releases to deep dives into the classics to every genre under the sun, this list is sure to match you with a book buddy or two whose taste you can trust.
Don't forget to add the titles that pique your interest to your own Want to Read shelf. And let us know which books caught your eye in the comments!

❇Pens thoughts...Ha this is funny both Theresa and maximilian and I all went for Jane Austen. Lol:-)
I just started reading recently since i did not have time to read before now, but now i have read more books that i had thought i could. i might be addicted. Im trying to finish the books in my to-read shelf before new books come out.

Mr. Tony Chan has a wonderful taste. I am sure he will have a fantastic summer reading those masterpieces.

Louise Penny is really good. You will have to start at the beginning to learn all the characters but it is just a nice mystery series.
Mostly sticking to a science/nature theme this summer. The Forest Unseen by David Haskell
Darwin Comes to Town by Menno Schilthuizen
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
Finally going to finish the Throne of Glass series, plans after will depend on the bookhangover it gives me...

I’m on disability so I have plenty of time to read yet my TBR grows ever larger. The best you can do is figure out what you want to read most in the moment. Welcome to the wonderful world of reading!
Theresa wrote: "I would like to do a Jane Austen summer but not sure yet what else. Maybe continue on my Louise Penny and Mary Stewart."Try Rumer Godden -- In this House of Brede is my favorite, but she wrote beautifully and everything she wrote is worth reading.
Wonderful choices. I plan on having a Louise Penney, William Kent Kruger, Harlan Coben and Laura Childs summer.
Since I consider May the start of Summer, I've already started on my Summer reading and looking forward to more awesome reading for pleasure discoveries in the future! Right now I am enjoying Descendant of the Crane which is a pretty good Asian fantasy so far.
Need five more online Book Clubs so I can completely eliminate choice and the possibility of finishing Moby Dick from my life.
Why do everything have to be so boring I I like you guys but when are we doing at the boring but we still get to have more fun

This is the most fun and interesting TBR listing you guys have done in a long time! Thank you for sharing!

Don't worry Allen I'm an Indian myself, just surprised to see more Indians working for GR since GR isn't Indian.....
The reason why most people make so many excuses about their finances is because excuses cost a dime and are very affordable. Talk is cheap. Learn to listen with your eyes because actions do speak louder than words.
I am looking forward to reading Beach Read, Eight Perfect Murders, and The Jane Austen Society (among others lol)
I was trying to follow The Jane Austen Book Club (movie) order of reading the Austen books, but I fell off schedule so I've got four to read this summer yet. Yay, Austen summers all around!
I too am going to do a summer of Jane Austen! I'd also like to add some adaptations / inspired by Austen books, if I am able (Eligible, Ayesha at Last, etc.). I have already had to modify my "on hold" list for e-books from my library... I also want to read The Jane Austen Society - debating whether to borrow it as an e-book or buy a copy to keep.
Thanks to this list I just add 18 more books to a list of several thousand, a list that grows at a much faster rate than I can possibly attend to. And then there's always the READ THIS NOW book which I get around to months later (in this case 3 of them: Ten Thousand Doors of January, Nottingham, and that sleep book) but first I must finish the random urge I got to read my way through Robert B Parker's Virgil Cole /Everett Hitch westerns, which could very well lead to the entire Spenser series, then his Sunny Randall one, etc, unless his "less is more," irreverent, witty sparse dialogue becomes a bit much and I derail the train for something interesting I found at the library (and if it never opens again I certainly have enough books on my list to be content with the curbside pick up program....) Anyone else have this kind of book pattern in their life? LOL
Lauren wrote: "I can’t wait to read Hidden Valley Road and The Lions of Fifth Avenue"LOL - per my below post, I just added 18 books to my list of thousands (read in no particular order) Thank you - now i just added Lions of Fifth Avenue....and I truly hope I actually read it at some point because it sounds quite good.
Props to those planning to read Three Kingdoms! I've been wanting to read it and you guys have inspired me to give it a try!
I’m going to continue on my Stephen King kick. Pet Sematary, The Bill Hodges trilogy, The Outsider, and If It Bleeds.

I really want to finish the Gentleman Bastard trilogy by Scott Lynch. Trinity rising and the Licanius. I'm also trying to get into other genres than fantasy as well.

Dude, it took me five seconds to check her profile and see that she is Indian herself. Might I suggest you try that next time?

If you read her bio it says she is from India. We should not be so quick to judge; I did too.:-((
