After several years of offering the Reading Challenge, we know what helps people enjoy their year of reading. Here's some of our best advice.
- Push yourself, but be realistic. Avoid the dreaded reading slump by committing to an achievable goal. You can always increase the number of books later.
- Use the calendar as a guideline: 12 books (one per month), 24 books (two per month), or even 52 books (one per week).
- Reading shouldn't feel like a chore. Remember, this challenge is all about what you want to read. But don't take our word for it: See what these experts have to say.

- Rereading counts! So by all means, go ahead and dive into those old favorites.
- Listen to audiobooks. This is a great way to read more and multitask.
- Check out books at your local library so it's easier to start your next book. Add your local library's website to your Book Links to request a book and have it ready for pickup later.
- Keep yourself accountable. Sharing an activity with others makes you more likely to focus. Join one of our thousands of reading groups devoted to a range of topics, themes, and genres.
- Use your Want to Read shelf to help keep track of what you'd like to read next. You can also create custom bookshelves for easy sorting.

- Scroll through Goodreads' News and Interviews for articles on new books, favorite authors, and more.
- Look back at the 2018 Goodreads Choice Awards for more than 400 reader-approved winners and nominees across 21 categories.
- Browse thousands of reading lists on Listopia.

Read over 300 in 2016 & 2017. Decided to think outside the book for 2018 only read 166. Shooting for 200 in 2019. Good luck everyone.
I'm starting with 50 first. I have no idea how real life would play out this year, and I can only adjust my reading goals after the first quarter of the year.
40 this year! I did 25 last year, and 38 the year before that. So hopefully it will be a new record for me since I’ve started doing these challenges!
RHMRooijendijk wrote: "Lets start w/ 25 its not a compatition. 😏"That’s my goal. I have a life outside of books.....not really. 😁 I just want to be practical.
First...I want to know what happend to the "update button"....and ...I would like to have it back !...40 books to read ...hopefully if I have more time I will read more than that......Goodreads...Don't forget to put my update button back please.....I dont like it the way you have it now !!!!
Goals are wonderful and also very personal. It's easy to get discouraged after seeing goals of 100+, but remember that your goal should fit your own lifestyle and the quality of books matters too! Read what you love, maybe try out a new genre, don't speed read just to meet your goal, and don't compare your goal to anyone else's. Just my two cents!

IKR I need that so it actually feels like I'm progressing in the book!

I was going to set my goal to 160 for 2019. But since I've been in a reading slump for a few years and I just started reading again I decided to go with 120. So I picked 120 books, including new releases, that I want to read this year. My hope is that I'll meet and exceed that goal.
HOW do y'all read 200 books in 1 year?!?! also I plan to read 20
Dropped in low at 50. I tend to raise and lower my challenge based on how my reading month is going.
I am putting down 20 books, but hope to read more. This past year was a great year for me for reading, but you never know...And based on another comment, I am missing the update button on my currently reading books.
Love this site!!
200! I did 100 last year and I was so close but I didn’t take my reading seriously till summer time! But when I did my reading skill and habits and amount of books I got done increased! So I’m applying all that to this year hoping to finish 200!
I read a book today and rated it, which automatically added it to my “Read” shelf. However, this book was not applied towards my reading goal. Can anyone help me out?
Last year I thought was a bit obsessive by hitting 75 books. This year, I'm not going to pushing it up, but to be at least keeping the pace.75 books!
Regina wrote: "I don't do audiobooks, cause i prceive it as cheating if you have your eyes working well, and have two jobs, therefore, i go for 52 this year :)"Agree. For those that do, good luck to them, but I just can't consider that "reading"
RHMRooijendijk wrote: "Lets start w/ 25 its not a compatition. 😏"Too true, though I suspect some of the high numbers include audio books...
I took a break the last two years because reading was starting to feel like a chore. I'll try 30 for now.
I seriously don’t understand how you all can read so many books...I struggle to find reading time, in 2018 I only read 31 :(
