It's simple: Set a goal of how many books you want to read this year, and we'll help you keep track of it. How many books will you be pledging?
After several years of offering the Reading Challenge, we know what helps people enjoy their year of reading. Here's some of our best advice.
- Push yourself, but be realistic. Avoid the dreaded reading slump by committing to an achievable goal. You can always increase the number of books later.
- Use the calendar as a guideline: 12 books (one per month), 24 books (two per month), or even 52 books (one per week).
- Reading shouldn't feel like a chore. Remember, this challenge is all about what you want to read. But don't take our word for it: See what these experts have to say.

- Rereading counts! So by all means, go ahead and dive into those old favorites.
- Listen to audiobooks. This is a great way to read more and multitask.
- Check out books at your local library so it's easier to start your next book. Add your local library's website to your Book Links to request a book and have it ready for pickup later.
- Keep yourself accountable. Sharing an activity with others makes you more likely to focus. Join one of our thousands of reading groups devoted to a range of topics, themes, and genres.
- Use your Want to Read shelf to help keep track of what you'd like to read next. You can also create custom bookshelves for easy sorting.

- Scroll through Goodreads' News and Interviews for articles on new books, favorite authors, and more.
- Look back at the 2018 Goodreads Choice Awards for more than 400 reader-approved winners and nominees across 21 categories.
- Browse thousands of reading lists on Listopia.

155!
flag
85 same as last year hopefully more. I feel if you read at least 1 you are doing great. I am missing the update button on the web page.
I can’t decide between 30 and 50 so I’m going to say 40. I want to ensure that pleasure is the main motivator and not a number but I also like a goal. Let’s read!
Mark wrote: "I am feeling a little inferior with a target of 12!"Same. But the important thing is to read what you like at your own pace. Good luck!
Reading challenges are great. I am looking to break out and read some genre that I don't normally read this year in addition to the 100 books I challenged mysef to read last year. I ended up reading over that.
15, 5 more than last year. And maybe actually try to manually add all my books since importing from LibraryThing seems to be broken forever lol
I will be happy with 43. Read 37 in 2017 and 40 in 2018. I’m not sure I believe all these numbers but good for you.
24 ! This is my first reading challenge and i haven’t been reading until now throughout the years. Wish me luck!
Last year I set my goal for 50, and I read at least 75. This year I’m going to try for 100. My biggest challenge won’t be reading the books, but remembering to log them in!
52, at least to start with. I'm doing the 2019 Book Riot Read Harder Challenge, which is 24 books, so that gives me wiggle room to read/reread other books that aren't part of the challenge.
Usually my goal is around 75, but I’m planning to have a busy year so my goal is 24 (two books a month that are high on my TBR).
I usually read a book a week, but a bit more when on holiday so I have set my target at 60. Happy reading everyone x
Since I read 28 in 2018 instead of the estimated 25, I went for 35 this year. :D Let's see what happens!
I will try 15, I know I read 23 last year, but I want to dive in to classics more, and that will cost some more time then the range of Harry potter books that I absorbed last year
I am going to try for 12. One per month. With my job and reading all day at work I have lost my way with reading for pleasure.
So my New Years Resolution is to get back to books. And I think 12 is a realistic goal for this working mom who enjoys playing sports and walking her dog in her spare time.

Read for the love!
omfg yall are aiming for higher and it’s inspiring, since i’m a beginner i’m aiming for 30 books this year but i hope i achieve more than that
