After several years of offering the Reading Challenge, we know what helps people enjoy their year of reading. Here's some of our best advice.
- Push yourself, but be realistic. Avoid the dreaded reading slump by committing to an achievable goal. You can always increase the number of books later.
- Use the calendar as a guideline: 12 books (one per month), 24 books (two per month), or even 52 books (one per week).
- Reading shouldn't feel like a chore. Remember, this challenge is all about what you want to read. But don't take our word for it: See what these experts have to say.

- Rereading counts! So by all means, go ahead and dive into those old favorites.
- Listen to audiobooks. This is a great way to read more and multitask.
- Check out books at your local library so it's easier to start your next book. Add your local library's website to your Book Links to request a book and have it ready for pickup later.
- Keep yourself accountable. Sharing an activity with others makes you more likely to focus. Join one of our thousands of reading groups devoted to a range of topics, themes, and genres.
- Use your Want to Read shelf to help keep track of what you'd like to read next. You can also create custom bookshelves for easy sorting.

- Scroll through Goodreads' News and Interviews for articles on new books, favorite authors, and more.
- Look back at the 2018 Goodreads Choice Awards for more than 400 reader-approved winners and nominees across 21 categories.
- Browse thousands of reading lists on Listopia.

My goal is the same as last year- 52, but I'm committing to read more bilingual, French, and Hungarian books this year. Happy New Year everyone, may it be better than the last! :)

100! I read 107 in 2018 so it's do-able - also I love the notifications telling me I exceeded my goal so deliberately leaving a buffer.
At least 150, but going for more. I love all books, fiction or non-fiction. I try to mix it up. My cup of tea is ready, and book in hand. Have fun readers!!

YES
I will go with 125. I didn't pledge in 2018 but finished 124. The most I've completed was 215 in 2014 but I don't think I will ever read that many again.
My goal in 2018 was 60 and I did make it with one day to spare. This year I was going to back down to 52, but I'm starting to reconsider .... 61?
Hey Goodreads! I mentioned you in one of my podcasts about reading goals! I know the app tracks number of books read but the year end goal has number of pages and other interesting stats. Can you update the app to include number of pages real time as we read. Thank you.PS. Here’s my podcast.

I've been able to go over my goal of 30 books for three years in a row, so I'm upping it to 40 this year. I actually made it to 52 last year, but I like to make a reasonable goal so I don't break under the pressure. I'll change it if I make it that far early.
Read 382 in 2018. I will try for 400 in 2019 but this year will be a little hectic for me so we shall see.
I’m shooting for 100. I was over my goal of 150 last year but I feel like I was reading to reach my goal so this year going to slow it down a bit
The most I’ve read in a year is 42 - so I’m pushing myself in 2019 and am pledging 60.Made a good start though - read four today.
Dang I aspire to read 300 in a year.. starting off with 24 😂 2 per month, an older classic and a newer one.
Silly question, how do I find my 2018 Reading Challenge Results? I thought I bookmarked the page an now it is gone. 🤓FYI- Goal this year is only 100 (found Ancestry.com and got a job, so can’t keep reading 250 books per year).🤣📚
I set my challenge at 25 last year and managed 30 so have picked that as my target for this year to aim towards. Having it as a challenge always encourages me to keep going! Good luck everyone!!
Jennifer on your home page look for the 2019 reading challenge click on view challenge when the new screen pops up you should see a list somewhere on the right side of that screen that shows all past years reading challenges. I hope this makes sense to you
For all of those commenting on the update button missing from their homepage. It does appear to be gone from everyone's homepage but you can still update your status on your books. It's just a little more work. Click on the book on your homepage you want to update your progress on. When the books screen comes up scroll down to where it says you are on page such and such of such and such pages. There should be an update progress button beside that or just underneath it. Click that button and update your progress. I think you need to hit save progress after that. I hope this helps everyone. I too would like that update progress button to be put back on the homepage. It made Goodreads life so much better lol.
Going for 20 thus year because I’m busy with school. Btw, this year’s reading challenge color is wierd. I mean dark purple?!! Really?
