It's simple: Set a goal of how many books you want to read this year, and we'll help you keep track of it. How many books will you be pledging?
After several years of offering the Reading Challenge, we know what helps people enjoy their year of reading. Here's some of our best advice.
- Push yourself, but be realistic. Avoid the dreaded reading slump by committing to an achievable goal. You can always increase the number of books later.
- Use the calendar as a guideline: 12 books (one per month), 24 books (two per month), or even 52 books (one per week).
- Reading shouldn't feel like a chore. Remember, this challenge is all about what you want to read. But don't take our word for it: See what these experts have to say.

- Rereading counts! So by all means, go ahead and dive into those old favorites.
- Listen to audiobooks. This is a great way to read more and multitask.
- Check out books at your local library so it's easier to start your next book. Add your local library's website to your Book Links to request a book and have it ready for pickup later.
- Keep yourself accountable. Sharing an activity with others makes you more likely to focus. Join one of our thousands of reading groups devoted to a range of topics, themes, and genres.
- Use your Want to Read shelf to help keep track of what you'd like to read next. You can also create custom bookshelves for easy sorting.

- Scroll through Goodreads' News and Interviews for articles on new books, favorite authors, and more.
- Look back at the 2018 Goodreads Choice Awards for more than 400 reader-approved winners and nominees across 21 categories.
- Browse thousands of reading lists on Listopia.

How can I see my reading challenge for 2018? I was Hoping to see if I completed it.

I am going for 39 this year since I didn't hit that goal last year due to graduation, starting a new job and a hectic summer. Also everybody that wants the progress bar back, that is only temporary due to maintenance, It was announced in the goodreads feedback group, however I only found that after searching for a while after freaking out because I use that as a bookmark on like 7 books. Sadly it wasn't communicated very well. Read that here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
El 2018 fue el año en el que acepté el reto de convertirme en un lector, pero solo leí 6 libros y espero leer 12 libros este año.
I wish there was a way to do the reading challenge based on number of pages instead of number of books! I tend to enjoy long books but feel pressured to read short ones in order to make the count look better! I read about 30,000 pages in 2018 and would like to do that again in 2019!
50 this year. May raise it to 100 as I go along. I listened to 210 books last year of a total of 200. I also am writing my own books and am working towards publication this year. Can't wait to see how many I end up listening to in total. Want to pace myself. Just finished my first book of the year:
Falling for Claire
As others have stated, I miss the update button on my home page. Hoping it will return. I am set for 26 books.

I also enjoy long books, but reading 1200 pages or so takes a while. It's not really possible to do many books every year if some of the books you read are that long.
Last year I missed 75 books by 4 books. But I did read some very long books. I'm going for 70 this year!
Why were the "update progress" buttons removed from the "currently reading" sidebar? Please bring them back!
I will do 10 .....between my family life, work and a ton of travel that is what is realistic for me. But I am positively envious of anyone with a target over 25 :-)

But I am positively envious of anyone with a target over 25 :-)"Some of us don't have lives (I'm speaking only about myself right now haha!) When I was in college I hardly had time to read for pleasure either!
I try to set a realistic goal being on the short side of 70 and retired I read for mostly entertainment and read normal under 450 page kindle or paper backs usually in less than a day; a few hours reading, but every year seem to get wound up in some mega hard to read books that have thousands of pages that decrease what I read for the year or re reading war and peace or the art of war or the complete works of Shakespeare so if i go off on a tangent my goal really doesn't matter.
Mark wrote: "I am feeling a little inferior with a target of 12!"Seriously, do not 'feel inferior' because you realistically believe you can achieve reading 12 books over a year. Only you know what other obligations you have. What your work load is. What your family demands are.
That you are willing to participate in the challenge is an achievement in itself.
Since last year I surprised myself from going from previously ~30 books a year to over 180! books (instead of the intended 20), I'll aim for 80 now. If it goes really well, then maybe 100 or however much it ends up being in the end. Looking forward to all those interesting boooks!
If I get to 52, I will feel like a champion. I am super impressed with the numbers here and I admire you guys!
56 again this year.2018's goal was 56 and I achieved 154. I see no reason to keep changing my challenge number. Once I have made the goal, the rest is just 'gravy'.
I use GR basically to keep track of the books I do read, prevent me from 'accidentally' re-reading a book {if I intentionally want to re-read it, that's another story entirely} and to be exposed to books, series and authors I would never have considered reading without GoodReads.
To all those who are participating this year, good luck and good reading!
