It's simple: Set a goal of how many books you want to read this year, and we'll help you keep track of it. How many books will you be pledging?
After several years of offering the Reading Challenge, we know what helps people enjoy their year of reading. Here's some of our best advice.
- Push yourself, but be realistic. Avoid the dreaded reading slump by committing to an achievable goal. You can always increase the number of books later.
- Use the calendar as a guideline: 12 books (one per month), 24 books (two per month), or even 52 books (one per week).
- Reading shouldn't feel like a chore. Remember, this challenge is all about what you want to read. But don't take our word for it: See what these experts have to say.

- Rereading counts! So by all means, go ahead and dive into those old favorites.
- Listen to audiobooks. This is a great way to read more and multitask.
- Check out books at your local library so it's easier to start your next book. Add your local library's website to your Book Links to request a book and have it ready for pickup later.
- Keep yourself accountable. Sharing an activity with others makes you more likely to focus. Join one of our thousands of reading groups devoted to a range of topics, themes, and genres.
- Use your Want to Read shelf to help keep track of what you'd like to read next. You can also create custom bookshelves for easy sorting.

- Scroll through Goodreads' News and Interviews for articles on new books, favorite authors, and more.
- Look back at the 2018 Goodreads Choice Awards for more than 400 reader-approved winners and nominees across 21 categories.
- Browse thousands of reading lists on Listopia.

I read 120 books in 2018. Not one romance, mostly (probably 75%) non fiction (psychology, philosophy, sociology, feminism, history...).
What a silly idea. Reading books is about enjoyment - not competing to see if you can read more than the other person.

I am trying for 50, though I think it will be more. Will be interesting to see how much I really read and what genre is more read.

Even when I had time to read I was lucky to get 4 in a year. Audio books work well for me ( sorry I don’t feel they are cheating ). Don’t let those numbers discourage you. It’s for your goal not someone else’s. Not everyone has time to read 100. Be proud when you bypass your goal whatever that may be
Pushing for 300 this year. Mostly audiobooks though. Already finished two since new years day. Yay me
12 for the year. I am an avid reader but all of the reading for graduate school leaves little time for pleasure reading.
I hit 30 last year against a target of 25, so 30 for this year. This is my 3rd year on the challenge and have found it really does help concentrate those spare moments to pick up a book rather than flick on the TV or stare at the wall.
I will start with a goal of 15, a little bit more than one per month I'm very impressed by your numbers
We already know what we have to do Daniela. Don't drive, don't fly, don't eat meat, buy products and vote for parties that prioritize the environment, and above all, ABOVE ALL, do not have children. People know this, I don't see how me not reading novels is going to help with asking people to make sacrifices, some of which are extremely difficult.
I set for 30, then up it to 50 and finally read 76 last year.So this year I'm saying 60 as don't want to push it if I'm unwell.

I'm starting with only 15 because school might get in the way. Hopefully I'll be able to read more and increase this!
I'm gonna shoot for 50 again. Missed it in 2018, I spent most of my available time sedated or groggy in a hospital bed. I'm not making excuses... Oh whom am I kidding. I'm making excuses. 😁

I'm with you, Hannah. A person can suggest books but should not get on a soapbox.
